Lab Tech

Perform a variety of testing activities on sheet metal aircraft components.

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of testing, including tensile, bend, hardness, welder certifications; and metallographic analysis of materials and processes commonly used at Exotic.

  • Monitor the completion of periodic process control testing and ensures samples are submitted for evaluation.

  • Perform necessary testing as requested by Design or Quality Engineering for the evaluation and resolution of material failures related to processing.

  • Utilize laboratory test equipment and apparatus, and arrange and suggest modifications to equipment for optimal functioning.

  • Record test findings; prepare and analyze results for review by customers and engineering personnel.

  • Detect and evaluate opportunities for improvement and propose solutions for potential or existing problems within scope of job function.

  • May perform a variety of inspection functions to support final and receiving inspection.

  • Responsible for ensuring proper documentation is entered on manufacturing planning (including correct quantities) and paperless timecard system.

  • Performs all work in accordance with established standards and safety procedures.

  • May demonstrate basic operations to others.

  • Work under direct oversight.

  • Requires proficient written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of office procedures, and experience in the operation of office equipment.

  • Requires familiarity with personal computers and related software.

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing planning and sketches.

  • Knows when to stop and ask for clarification.

Working Conditions

Demonstrate proper and safe operation of equipment, and personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, safety glasses/full face shield, hearing protection, respirator, and rubber gloves as required.

Physical Requirements

Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and frequent movement of the whole body, such as climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, balancing and handling of material.

VIEW JOBS 3/11/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-09T00:00 Description: As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will be responsible for supporting the Avionics Development Lab used by our avionics design teams. In this hands-on position, you will work to support electrical, mechanical, software, systems, and test engineers with the electronics equipment, tools, and materials they require to prototype our avionics systems. You will also support the development and test of reference design circuits used across Blue Origin. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities: * Establish lab electrical safety standards and implement robust safety solutions * Identify, document, fabricate, and test space systems reference design circuits while working closely with subject matter experts and design engineers * Mentor other technicians and engineers in electronics test and debugging * Assemble, test, and re-work prototype circuit card assemblies * Troubleshoot hardware failures to root cause * Operate and maintain lab test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, programmable loads, power supplies, etc.) * Help maintain and develop a safe, clean, and productive laboratory space. Order lab tooling and equipment, manage work queues, and support engineering customers as required Qualifications: * 10+ years of experience working in a hands-on electronics development and/or test role * Hands-on experience with a variety of common electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, waveform generators, etc.) * Experience in aerospace, aircraft, or high-reliability electronics development and debugging * Working knowledge of digital circuits, analog circuits, computers, microprocessors, and networks * Ability to interpret circuit card electrical schematics and layouts * Strong safety mindset and experience implementing preventative measures * Demonstrated creative troubleshooting and problem solving skills * Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills * Ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing engineering needs * Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
