Job Description
Position Summary:
To assist the technologists in the performance of laboratory duties, which include but are not limited to specimen processing, specimen problem solving, adding of testing to specimens, answering and triaging all incoming calls and handling any adding of testing to specimens and execute or analyze tests in numerous areas. Research and resolve any production errors or problems while escalating when necessary.
Essential Job functions:
Put away supplies, rotating stock so as to prevent expiration of product
Coordinate and follow up with Quest and LabCorp on a daily basis to help resolve problems for, missing/outstanding testing results
Answer the phone; take messages; obtain necessary information and gives response to caller to include all calls regarding patient results
Provide client services in taking appropriate information, finding resolution, triaging problems and questions from Doctors, Nurses and CMA's
Place HPV orders in COPIA when requested by clinician
Readies specimens for placement onto analyzers, ensuring that the barcoded label is properly affixed to the specimen tubes
Find specimens for add-on testing requested by physician office; label and ensure that order was placed by office staff
Corresponding with offices on missing and delayed specimens
Utilize necessary computer applications to collect office collected specimens in the LIS; print labels and reference laboratory requisitions
Assist with finding Pending specimens on various Work-in-Process / Pending Reports. Follow up on specimen problem box and resolving all specimen issues
Discard aged specimens in appropriate disposal units
Organize prior days' work sheets & instrument print outs for storage
Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned that are within the scope of ability
Ensure records are accurate, complete, legible and appropriately files and stored in binders for future reference as needed
Assists Supervisor and Technician with ongoing Special Projects and STAT requests for mishandled specimens
Prepare a daily CityMD daily lab errors report, and process LIS emails as needed
Create VERGE reports for CAPA analysis
Assists all laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed
High Level of attention to detail with strong organizational and prioritization skills
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to make decision in a fast-paced environment
Perform all responsibilities independently with no direct supervision required

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
Associate's Degree, preferred
0-1 year related work experience, required
2-4 year related work experience, preferred
Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS), preferred
Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required
Moderate-High level Computer skills, required
Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail)
Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required
Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment
