Lab Specialist I - Department Of Biological Sciences

JOB SUMMARY:

This Lab Technician will conduct plant maintenance, data collection in the field, greenhouse and laboratory, data entry, and general lab maintenance. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

65%

• Essential

• Performs field, greenhouse and laboratory procedures. This includes cultivating, maintaining and phenotyping plants, conducting controlled crosses, collecting and identifying pollinators, and DNA extraction.

20%

• Essential

• Enters and curates datasets, manages and updates project protocols. Enters numerical data collected from experiments into Excel spreadsheets. Curates datasets and metadata associated with data sets. Writes, maintains, and updates research protocols.

10%

• Essential

• Teaches and supervises students in lab procedures and data entry.

5%

• Essential

• Maintains a clean and safe lab and greenhouse spaces. Includes maintaining chemical inventory.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education

• High School or Equivalent

Work Experience 1+ years in a clinical or research laboratory setting, in a health care setting or in a general maintenance or machine shop environment. A bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline may be substituted for the required work experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education

• 1st Bachelor's Degree

• Biology or related field

Previous experience in a research lab setting, specifically experience with field and greenhouse work. DNA extractions and PCR.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range: $30,500.00 - $40,000.00

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
