Lab Assistant

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Facilities Operations Manager or designee, responsible

for site departmental operations supporting the client's physical assets, scientific

processes, and support systems as required to maintain an available scientific

environment. These operations include but are not limited to; glassware washing and

autoclaving operations, inventory control and management, capital equipment

procurement and installation, hazardous waste management, shipping and receiving,

bulk chemical delivery and gas systems, building environmental control systems and

technology, building upgrades and rehabilitations, laboratory relocations and office


1.Completes required comprehensive training in regard to regulatory, corporate, site

specific and departmental procedures.
2.Serves as the Laboratory Services liaison for all research support needs and

communicates all research needs to the appropriate management staff.
3.Assures that the necessary safety equipment and personal protective equipment is

available and utilized during the performance of job requirements.
4.Assists the department in covering various operations requirements when assigned.
5.Ensures that there are zero interruptions, disruptions, or losses arising from

unscheduled downtime of client services. Systems operations and maintenance must

be safe, reliable, and economical.
6.Initiates and acts upon assigned work orders for facilities and laboratories.

Conducts periodic routine safety, environmental, and other required inspections/audits

of the Palo Alto site and departmental facilities.
7.Ensures that appropriate inspection documentation is submitted and takes prompt

action to correct conditions found to be out of compliance or unsafe.
8.Coordinates appropriate waste management operations and documentation with

client and approved waste management vendors.
9.Manages laboratory supplies for hazardous waste handling requirements and

chemical storage / handling
10. Performs all aspects of glassware washing and autoclaving operations per

established protocols and procedures.
11. Ensures that agreed-upon consumables are available during normal business

hours with no stock outs and that laboratory chemicals are tracked from receipt to

final disposition while on client's site.
12. Performs receipt and delivery of materials to appropriate end-users. Supports all

established procedures and systems associated with this process.
13. Performs the disposition of various surplus Research equipment and

instrumentation. Assists in the safe disposition of various surplus research equipment

and instrumentation by performing decontaminations and guiding scientist through

the Asset Disposition and decontamination process.
14. Performs appropriate move support and cleaning, supports internal work order

scheduling and completion per client specifications.
15. Ensures that the appropriate inventory of shipping materials is available, stages

research material for shipment, prepares shipping packages and placement of

materials for shipment into final shipping container. Completes all final container

preparation for shipment per established business and regulatory requirements.
16. Ensures that shipments are in compliance with DOT and IATA guidelines and

initiates carrier services / accommodations when specialized requirements are

17. Responsible for evaluating area operations and implementing new procedures in

order to improve safety, efficiency, reduce expenses, and generate cost

18. Participates in sustainability efforts to minimize environmental impacts while

enhancing efficiencies in work processes.


  • Education: Minimum: High School diploma required.

  • Experience: 5+ years in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry

  • Experience in team management

  • IATA, DOT, and RCRA certification required

  • Proficient in Word, Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite programs

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to lead effectively in a dynamic work environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Detail oriented
