The Immunology/Microbiology Research Department is looking for a full time Laboratory Research Technician 1 to join their team and staff.

Position Highlights:

  • The Lab Research Technician 1 is responsible for performing basic scientific tests, experiments, and analyses while working under the direction of a Principal Investigator (PI) and more senior lab staff.

  • Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Gather and prepare biological samples, such as blood, food, and bacteria cultures, for laboratory analysis.

  • Set up, maintain, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment, such as microscopes, scales, and test tubes.

  • Assist research staff to conduct basic laboratory tests and procedures for a limited number of ongoing research studies.

  • Use computer software to collect and analyze experimental data.

  • Follow good laboratory safety practices and comply with safety protocols.

  • Document work including equipment settings, procedures, and results according to lab protocols.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; High School diploma with 2 years of laboratory experience required.

  • Familiarity with traditional laboratory instruments and basic knowledge of basic experimental design

  • Knowledge of good laboratory practice, lab health and safety principles

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Effective oral and written communication

Position Highlights: The Health Care Research Assistant is responsible for assisting in CDC-funded infection control research projects. Activities include preparing study materials, performing data collection, and data entry. This position requires someone who is highly organized, detail-orientated, and flexible. Will work closely with the project manager and principal investigator in all aspects of this position. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Position Responsibilities: * Prepares data collection materials per protocol and performs data entry * Coordinates study visits and phone calls. * Performs data collection in accordance with study protocol. * Interacts effectively with the Principal Investigator, Project Manager, and all staff of the Chicago CDC Prevention Epicenter team. * Attends regular team meetings to discuss matters concerning participants, data collection, and problem solving. * Complies with ethical standards for research involving human subjects. * Performs related duties as assigned. Position Qualifications Include: * Bachelor's degree in a health- or science-related field is required. * Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office) are a necessity. * Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work with a variety of individuals in a professional manner. * This individual must understand and maintain discretion and confidentiality related to all aspects of the studies. * The Research Assistant must have excellent organizational skills, be self-directed, be persistent and have a flexible schedule to accommodate study protocols. * Traveling to off-site locations for to help with data collection may be required.
