ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
o Perform certain administrative tasks to support general lab operations (maintain consumable and reagent inventory spreadsheets, mail/ship packages, organize standard operating procedures)
o Maintain the supply of all laboratory reagents and consumables. This includes securing the best pricing from vendors, completing Recombia's purchase requisition process, placing orders with vendors, storing invoices and receipts, and unpacking and organizing supplies when they arrive.
o Communicate directly with vendors to schedule preventative maintenance and/or installation of certain capital equipment.
o Maintain up-to-date chemical inventory (including uploading Safety Data Sheets, and adding accurate GHS and NFPA designations to our database) and ensuring proper storage of all lab chemicals.
o Enforce lab safety policies
o Implement and enforce lab organization and cleanliness policies, including those related to waste management (both hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, and recycling)
o Be responsible for certain core functions in the lab (e.g. media preparation and dishwashing)
o Support the onboarding of new hires by giving lab orientation tours.
o Interact frequently with leadership and staff to successfully execute the responsibilities of this position.
o Take initiative and use sound judgement to perform tasks when needed without being asked.
o Follow written protocols to perform manual laboratory work with minimal supervision (e.g. DNA extractions, PCR, flask fermentation).
o Maintain up to date electronic lab notebook
o Interpret and communicate experiment results to stake holders.
o Keep up to date on technical developments that can save time and improve reliability of lab procedures.
o Attend technical meetings as needed to maintain foundational knowledge of project goals and milestones.
o Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
3 to 5 years of experience working in a modern molecular biology laboratory.
Microsoft Office 365 and Benchling experience preferred.
