Under the general direction of the Brand Manager, the purpose of the position is to develop and implement local policies and procedures, enforce company policies and procedures, company philosophies, and meet company expectations. Colleagues in this classification perform technical and managerial work. The position is responsible for support center reporting, quality control, budgetary requirements, customer service, and management of lab personnel.
A typical day for a lab manager would consist of opening & closing the lab. During business hours the lab manager would ensure all timed jobs are being manufactured correctly while also ensure that all orders are being tracked in cases where the job is not being completed in-house. The lab manager would communicate with the retail staff multiple times during the day to communicate the progress of jobs. The lab manager is also responsible for personal job production and is expected to run various machines. The lab manager will be required to perform equipment maintenance per the company's daily, weekly & monthly schedules. The LM will be required to hit delivery times for "Now Service", "24-Hour" and "Special Order (Ready When Promised)" jobs.
Prepares support center reporting to include, cost of goods sold, payroll percentages, daily usage lens reports, daily breakage reports, and monthly physical inventory counts and forward to appropriate support center department and area leader.
Manages lab personnel; assign duties, establish performance standards and work schedules, train, motivate, mentor, counsel, measure performance, enforce company policies and procedures; hire and terminate colleagues as necessary.
Coordinates lab and store objectives and establishes daily goals with leaders.
Maintain quality control; identify recurring errors and develop solutions to eliminate errors.
Maintains a steady workflow to coincide with delivery time commitments to patients (Now Service, Ready When Promised).
Returns lenses to vendors for credit on a monthly basis; follow up as necessary.
Maintains a consistent, cost-effective level of lens inventory using an inventory matrix design for market; ensure adequate inventory of lens type and safety stock for a minimum of 3 days.
Ensures special orders are completed daily; ensure replenishment subbing lenses to reduce special orders when necessary.
Reviews and approves all invoices and packing slips for inventory received.
Maintains all equipment; schedule for repair and maintenance as required.
Enforces OSHA and safety requirements; maintains OSHA compliance and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets).
Ensures the lab is clean and organized; assign housekeeping duties as necessary.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; supplemented by six (6) months experience optical sales or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word, Google Docs, etc.
