St. Thomas Aquinas College invites applications for a full-time Lab Manager for the School of STEM. The person hired for this position will report to the Dean of the School of STEM. Responsibilities include managing STEM laboratories, serving as the chemical hygiene officer, teaching laboratory sections of the General Biology and/or General Chemistry sequence, supervision of work-study students, advising and participation in STEM program and policy development, and attendance at STEM/College events.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
STEM Laboratory Responsibilities:
Maintain inventory
Coordinate ordering and receipt of lab materials and supplies, service and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and chemical and biological waste disposal
Keep laboratories up to all inspection standards
Manage year-round care for live specimens
Chemical Hygiene Officer:
Develop and implement the Chemical Hygiene Plan
Ensure that all laboratory personnel meet lab safety training requirements, which may include conducting safety training
Ensure that all personnel, students, and visitors observe safety rules and report cases of non-compliance
Coordinate the testing of lab safety equipment
Investigate and report incidents related to the use of hazardous chemicals in accordance with federal and state law
Laboratory Instruction:
Prepare and teach General Biology and/or General Chemistry laboratory courses
Assist students in the performance of their experiments by instructing and demonstrating proper techniques, ensuring achievement of student learning outcomes, and responding to questions
Prepare and teach science laboratory activities for summer camps
Other Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage work-study students assigned to work in the laboratories
Participate in STEM meetings and College events
Advise students
Qualifications and competencies:
Master's degree required
Experience working in a laboratory setting (2+ years preferred)
Experience teaching laboratory courses (2+ years preferred)
Working knowledge of the Laboratory Safety Standard, OSHA, and EPA rules and regulations
Adapt and apply laboratory methods, practices, and techniques common to the designated science area.
Perform routine and analytical work needed to prepare reagents, solutions, equipment and materials used in exercises and experiments.
Ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative and professional relationships with laboratory personnel while actively promoting a culture of safety including the implementation and enforcement of laboratory safety requirements.
Demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.

Salary Range:
The salary for this position is $58,500.
