Summary

Manage the day-to-day operational support activities of the R&D laboratory, inclusive of all scientific groups, GLP and non-GLP related. Responsible to develop plans and implement procedures to increase laboratory efficiencies.

  • Champion the adoption of all safety initiatives and insure daily compliance.

  • Responsible for short and long-term planning for all aspects of lab support operations as they relate to the scientific pipeline, maintaining focus on scientific goals.

  • Collaborate on efforts to improve and sustain the inventory system for biological reagents (plasmids, cells, vectors) and samples including reception, maintenance and shipment.

  • Provide feedback as to the availability of adequate operational personnel, space, equipment, and facilities to meet scientific goals.

  • Play a strong role in the collaborative efforts of the R&D Operations team effecting LIMS administration, lab support/maintenance, sample management, laboratory efficiency initiatives

  • Facilitate the implementation, development and adoption of LIMS related initiatives.

  • Communicate laboratory requirements with the Facilities, Metrology, IT and Engineering teams.

  • Act as point person to coordinate the purchase of all laboratory equipment; collaborating with scientific staff, procurement, metrology, engineering, IT and facilities.

  • Interact with PD and PCO to ensure efficient interactions and progresses of the inter-department activities.

Responsibilities
20% Lead the lab management team; prioritize and facilitate day-to-day activities to sustain of the R&D laboratory functionality. Coordinate activities with PD and PCO where applicable.

  • Manage performance of every team member, provide continuous and on-going performance feedback, hold every team member accountable to achieve results while demonstrating the Spark Values.

  • Ensure individual objectives align to corporate and functional objectives.

  • Develop team members by continually growing employees through challenging experiences, identify areas for development, actively coach, provide development and learning opportunities.

  • Foster Sparks Culture and lead by example. Create an environment where team members thrive in Spark's culture by living our truths, always in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Emphasize to team members that how they achieve performance objectives is just as important as what they accomplish.
    10% Develop, implement and maintain procedures to increase efficiencies in the laboratory.
    10% Accountable to manage Sparks ordering processes for laboratory equipment.
    30% Coordinate laboratory logistics effecting safety practices, reagents, samples, chemicals, waste handling, equipment procurement. Request internal or third-party support as needed.
    10% Communicate laboratory requirements to secure appropriate support for efficiency initiatives.
    20% Collaborate with the LIMS team to insure full utilization of LIMS capabilities among the scientific staff. Provide input for the improvement and development of the LIMS.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and working experience in Biotech industry.

  • Multiple projects oriented.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage performance and talent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MS in a relevant field preferred.

  • Minimum 5-8+ years of biotech industry working experience.

  • Project management or supervisory experience strongly preferred.

  • Broad understanding of laboratory technical and equipment needs; hands-on experience with standard molecular and cell biology techniques such as DNA cloning, qPCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, cell culture, etc., preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of building systems requirements preferred.
