WORK ENVIRONMENT
THIS IS NOT AN H1B/J1 OPPORTUNITY. Candidate must be legally permitted to work in the United States and not subject to revocation.
This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential.
Per the terms and agreements of the department's contracts and grants, the position requires signing of a Confidentiality Agreement or Non-Disclosure Agreement regarding testing and client information.
Ability to complete Select Agent background clearance procedures.
Valid CA Driver License
This position is subject to UCD's vaccination program (Influenza, SARS-CoV-2, is/might subject to prophylactic vaccination for rabies), and Medical/Health Surveillance Program/Procedures/Review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.

3:00pm (Work schedule might be slightly different during the training period)
Work flexible schedule/overtime as needed to complete projects and meet deadlines.
Due to the nature of the essential responsibilities, this position is not eligible for remote work.
Mandatory weekend and holiday rotation.
Restricted/Limited vacation during peak workload periods (i.e. Outbreaks, Fiscal Close, Audits Periods, etc.)
Occasional travel to CAHFS branch laboratories, conferences, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
Experience providing excellent customer service to clients. Skills to maintain confidentiality of client information.
Experience using computer skills to rapidly and accurately perform data entry and retrieval of data, and to utilize software programs such as StarLIMS, Word and Excel.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Skills to adapt and work in flexible conditions and to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time.
Skills in providing attention to detail and high-level accuracy.
Skills to follow protocol, safe working practices and handle/dispose of biohazardous/infectious materials.
Knowledge of and skills in veterinary/medical diagnostic laboratory test procedures and service functions.
Skills to work independently without direct supervision with organizational skills to prioritize workload and manage time to ensure that all job tasks are completed with careful attention to detail including labeling, identification, verification, matching and completing documentation all while meeting established deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
General knowledge of Foreign Animal Diseases, Select Agents, and other reportable diseases.
Knowledge of air and ground shipping regulations.
Knowledge of microbiology and animal physiology, to include optimal/deleterious storage/shipping conditions for the viability of various pathogens (bacteria, viruses, parasites & fungi) and integrity of host cells (e.g., for hematology and cytology) and biochemical constituents (e.g., for enzyme/immunologic/electrolyte assays).
Knowledge of and skills to use various laboratory equipment including; centrifuges, blenders, biohazard safety cabinets, glassware washers and autoclaves.
