Position Summary A Laboratory Assistant Non-Technical registers patients/specimens by validating and keying correct demographic and billing information and performs compliant order verification. Orders lab procedures in the LIS. Accessions and processes all types of patient specimens in preparation for testing in the various sections of the laboratory. A Laboratory Assistant Non-Technical must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures.# Understands and complies with the Behavior Standards and department policies, procedures and regulations. Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations. Must be able to work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate professionally with physicians, management and staff. Must be able to make decisions and use appropriate judgment. Registration of patients/specimens following all procedures as outlined. Receive, accession, and process all types of inpatient and outpatient specimens. # Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric. Whiles these standards are intended to be an accurate reflection of the job requirements, management reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties from particular jobs and to assign other duties as necessary. Physical Requirements # Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds or equivalent effort applied in pushing, pulling, or other job activities. Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination, acceptable vision, and hearing within normal range. Subject to exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous chemicals. Must be able to work at optimum speed with accuracy and efficiency. Must possess the ability to withstand extensive periods of standing and/or sitting.
