Laboratory Support Services Job Type:Regular Primary Shift:Variable Hours:Variable
Hours per Week: 0 Weekend Needs:Rotating Pay Rate: $16.03 - $24.04 per hour
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Laboratory Assistant performs four essential roles in the function of the Laboratory:
Lab Customer Service
Phlebotomist
Lab Order Entry including handling of patient information and test results.
Specimen Processing and Shipment of samples to Reference Labs
Provides Exceptional Customer Service to all stakeholders in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of the Laboratory and UVMHN.
Obtains specimens for testing according to policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
Performs administrative duties to meet the needs of the Laboratory Department and the customers served by the laboratory.
Processes specimens prior to testing, ensuring quality and adhering to established policies and procedures.
Works collaboratively with coworkers, Technologists and other staff within department and in other departments throughout the Organization.
Uses a variety of communication skills to meet the needs of the laboratory department and the customers served by the laboratory.
Participates in continuing education and departmental development functions to support professional growth and departmental initiatives.
EDUCATION:
Able to read, write and speak the English language
High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Phlebotomy Certification from a nationally recognized agency is highly recommended
Phlebotomy experience is a plus
Computer entry or word processing skills required
Working knowledge of medical terminology desirable
Good interpersonal communication skills required
Approximately six months to a year is required to learn the job for satisfactory performance. The Laboratory Director will evaluate this.
