Job Summary / Purpose
Under the direction of the Pathology Manager and Supervisors or the Lead Technicians the Lab Assistant Assists in specimen collection, monitoring of Pathology specimens, clerical duties, receptionist duties, processing of specimens, generates computer reports, order enter of tests, liaison to customers using Memorial Hospital Pathology, participates in inventory control, Assists in Frozen Section, and other procedures in the department.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Patients, accurately labels specimens while accessioning.
And hospital education in-service's within the required time frame, assumes responsibility for reading
Assures the correct specimen and quantity of specimen is submitted for analysis.
Participates in an approved competency program that demonstrates knowledge and skill and includes
specimen collection, specimen processing, and care of patients of all ages.
Appropriately including taking and delivering messages promptly and accurately and/or routing each call
accounts, etc. with minimum technologist assistance.
Identifies specimen/requisitions discrepancies and resolve by calling for specimen or request as needed.
Continually makes best use of time during their shift by assuming responsibility for communicating pertinent
information with co-workers; completion of starting of shift, coordinating lunch/breaks and daily tasks in a
manner which meets the needs of the laboratory.

Order all tests and correct tests, unbag specimens documenting specimens, receiving and missing or wrong
Specimens received, label specimen with the correct bar code labels, deliver specimens Pathology/Cytology
for Testing in a timely manner.

Scan and QC requisition into Pathology LIS System.
Perform other duties as requested
