Job Description

As a Lab Assistant, you will have potential placement in three different areas: Accessioning, Slide Filing, and Send Backs. In the Accessioning area, you will receive packages from clients, with each package representing a new case. You will be responsible for confirming all slides, wax blocks are included and entering the case information into the LIS system (EPIC Beaker), before assigning and delivering it to the pathologist. In the Slide Filing area, you will be processing and filing complete pathology cases within the reference lab of the pathology department, following SOP for filing and archiving patient cases. In the Send Backs area, you will prepare completed cases for return to the originating doctor, including gathering slides, packaging, creating FedEx labels, and entering information into the LIS system. Attention to detail and organization skills are crucial for this role.

Job Type

This is an open ended contract position. This person will stay on contract with Actalent until a full time position opens up at the hospital. There is room for growth and opportunity to move into more advanced labs down the line, if desired. Open to candidates who are looking for work in a gap year, or short term.

Work Environment

You will be assigned a dedicated workstation, but will also need to move around to slide archives etc. to gather different pieces of the case. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with shifts from 8:30 AM - 5 PM
