Under the supervision of academic personnel and research associatesl perform protein assays, western blotting, confocal microscopic imaging, exosomes isolation and labeling and ELISAs. Culture human derived cell cultures (primary and cell line) for study of dementia. Also responsible for cleaning and maintenance of equipment and supplies and maintain adequate inventory of lab supplies.

Physical Demands:

May be required to perform handling activities with lightweight or easily to move items.

Perform moving activities for brief periods.

Operate light equipment.

Sitting at work bench to perform protocols.

Perform repetitive motions for brief periods.

Confinement to a specific work area.

Work Environment:

  • Work occasional overtime as needed.

  • Work in an environment where animals are used in research.

  • This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

College level course work in applicable areas.

Experience with general laboratory techniques and use of general lab equipment such as centrifuges, pipettes, microscropes.

Skills to accurately follow experimental protocols and procedures, and accurately collect and record data, maintaining precise records and notes.

Experience performing protein assays, western blotting, confocal microscopic imaging, and exosome isolation.

Knowledge of and experience exercising safe laboratory work practices, including work with hazardous substances.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with animal handling/minor procedures.

Experience with cell/organ culture.

Experience with biochemical assays.

Experience in basic molecular biology techniques.

Experience in basic microscopy skills.

Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.

VIEW JOBS 12/1/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-01T00:00 The UC Davis Vegetable and Field Crop Pathology program in the Plant Pathology department provides pathology support to over 25 farm advisors and 35 crops across California. Responsibilities of this position include diagnosing crop diseases of unknown etiology, characterizing new diseases discovered through diagnosis efforts, conducting surveys for new diseases, developing new diagnostics tools and detection methods for priority diseases, assisting with industry collaborations to screen cultivars for disease resistance, and running the Fusarium wilt race 4 monitoring program for tomato. Managerial responsibilities include serving as the primary technical manager of the diagnostics clinic and the lab safety coordinator, coordinating lab activities, on-boarding and training new lab members, overseeing research greenhouse maintenance, maintaining lab databases and culture collection, and assisting with field trials. Additional responsibilities include assisting in coordinating field days, conferences and workshops put on by the PI, preparation of newsletter articles and reports, and contribution to grant proposals. This position involves active participation in regular lab meetings and there is will be many opportunities to give oral and poster presentations at field days, stakeholder and scientific meetings, and contribute to scientific publications. Physical Demands: Perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks. Drive long distances to various areas of the state. Must have valid drivers license and be an experienced and capable long distance driver. Work flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings and weekends to meet research needs and fulfill diagnostics obligations. Must be able to lift heavy items (>25lbs). Preferred Qualifications: Experience identifying symptoms of plant diseases, methods for inoculation and isolation of plant pathogenic fungi, methods for quantifying disease development, and methods for identifying fungi to the genus level based on morphology using standard keys. Primer/probe design and phylogenetic analysis experience is desirable but not required.
