Maintain quality and health of research animals by daily animal health checks and recording animal health concerns per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and/or specified protocols. Perform cage changing or cleaning as required.

Provide appropriate food and water to the researchanimals on a daily basis. Care for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area as directed by the veterinary staff.

Required Skills

High School Diploma/GED required.

Prefer one year of experience working with lab animals or caring for animals.

This position is 40 hours per week with a Sunday- Thursday schedule. Prefer AALAS ALAT certification or expectation within 1 year. (American Assoc for Laboratory Animal Science, Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certification)' This is a union position on the Charles River Campus.

VIEW JOBS 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-09T00:00 The Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine(DLAM) provides facilities, services, and information to facilitate effectiveresearch using laboratory animals at Tufts University and Tufts Medical Centerin Boston and Tufts University in Medford. DLAM is also obligated to insure that animal care procedures and animalexperimentation comply with federal, state, and local regulations.Themanagement and operation of the animal care activities of all sites areintegral to the animal care and use program. All centralized facilities are located within a 2-block radius, eitherin Boston or Medford, housing in excess of 40,000 animals daily. The Supervisor, under the supervision of theManager, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of DLAM's animalfacilities. In addition, this positionis responsible for supervising 15-25 animal care staff employees and assistingin the development and implementation of all policies pertaining to theHusbandy and Facility Operations section of DLAM. Basic Requirements: * Associates Degree with a minimum of 1-3 years supervisory experience. * AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) level or higher. If not AALAS certified at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level, certification should be obtained within 1 year of employment. * The candidate should have experience in a research support environment and regulations governing animal research and must have demonstrated productivity and effective interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of experience and LATG certification.
