The Lab & Simulation Coordinator has primary responsibility for the coordination of the nursing labs for the Nursing program, as well as occasionally conducting simulations and teaching in nursing courses in the nursing program. This position will be open until filled.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC

  • Hold a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.

  • Have 2 years or more experience teaching in Nursing Education

  • Have two calendar years or the equivalent of full‐time clinical experience as a registered nurse.

  • Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. (NOTE: Documentation criteria are per the North Carolina Board of Nursing).

  • Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility.

  • Have current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and/or the licensed practical nurse.

  • Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the College

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing education.

  • Certification as Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) encouraged.

Essential Duties

  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the department chairs and approved by the Associate dean and dean.

  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.

  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACS‐approved competencies.

  • Inventory, organize, secure, manage and maintain all supplies and equipment for labs.

  • Develop and maintain an equipment usage scheduling/instructor sign out system.

  • Assist instructors to set up labs by assembling supplies/equipment.

  • Prepare lab activities and assignments as directed.

  • Train instructors on correct use of lab equipment.

  • Manage linen cleaning, inventory, and storage.

  • Fulfill the duties of instructor in supervision of students as applicable.

  • Coordinate "open laboratory hours" with lead instructors prior to the beginning of each semester.

  • Provide remediation to students per instructor referral via one -on‐one or in groups based on specific student needs per instructor referral or course competencies.

  • Coordinate scheduling of interdisciplinary lab.

  • Serve on nursing department, division and college committees related to nursing skills lab and simulation.

  • Serve as chief liaison for HT faculty in the development, assessment, securing and training related to simulations.

  • Preview and make recommendations for audiovisual aids to enhance learning, including remediation software and/or testing materials.

  • Make recommendations for new lab equipment.

  • Prepare and maintain a lab teaching/remediation documentation record on all students.

  • Communicate with instructors concerning student referrals for lab remediation.

  • Coordinate use of nursing lab computers for student usage.

  • Attend level and faculty meetings for Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs.

  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records

  • Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments where applicable.

  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.

Curriculum Development:

  • Assist in the maintenance, review, and updating of course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.

  • Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.

  • Assist with the development of new programs in the area of expertise.

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum.

Advising:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of student admission, progression, and graduation requirements of the nursing program.

  • Provide assistance to advisees.

  • Participate in department, division and college‐wide advising activities.

  • Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.

  • Use the computer and the college's student information system to assist advisees.

  • Follow up on all assigned advisees.

  • Attend training sessions relative to advising.

Professional Development:

  • Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the department chair; and participate in those activities that achieve approved professional development activities.

  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.

  • Maintain membership and participation in professional organizations, such as International Nursing Association Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.

  • Read professional literature.

  • Keep abreast of current technology.

  • Attend workshops, conferences, and professional meetings.

  • Participate in on‐campus professional development activities.

Institutional Service:

  • Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.

  • Attend all required department, division, and college‐wide meetings.

  • Serve on committees as required.

  • Participate in college‐wide activities.

Community Relations:

  • Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable.

  • Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the college and the department.

  • Assist in planning advisory committee meetings.
