Lab And Research Tech 1-2 OR Lab Specialist

The Desai lab in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks a Lab and Research Tech 1-2 OR Lab Specialist. The exact position will depend on academic qualifications and lab experience.

The research in Desai lab seeks to understand the mechanisms through which immune cells sense and adapt to rapid changes in the tissue environment during host defense, inflammation, and tissue homeostasis. In this context, we take a special interest in the role of ion channels, GPCRs and calcium signaling in the sensory physiology of different types of tissue-resident macrophages.

Current projects in the Desai lab focus on defining the ion channel and GPCR-mediated signals controlling: (1) cell-intrinsic defense processes; (2) immunometabolism; (3) functional specialization of organ-resident myeloid cells; (4) neuroimmune crosstalk. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Lab and Research Technician 1

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.

Lab and Research Technician 2

Education: Associate's degree

Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

Lab Specialist

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Applicants should have college level training in physical or life sciences
• 2 years of lab experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
