WSP is currently initiating a search for a Planning and Environmental Manager for our Los Angeles, CA office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage staff on a day-to-day basis, ensuring staff are working on the appropriate projects and providing high quality work for key clients
Mentor staff in terms of career development and personal goals
Coordinate staff activities related to professional organizations and outside activities, including assisting in the development of abstracts and papers for submittal, as well as organizing activities in support of conferences and events
Perform regular reviews of staff goals and objectives
Serve as primary contact for all Planning and Environmental activities conducted in the Los Angeles area, and will coordinate closely with the regional planning and environmental manager in regards to major pursuits
Monitor and engage in regular meetings with major clients, including LA Metro, the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles World Airports, the City of Long Beach, Caltrans, and others to gather intelligence and assist in broader office-wide activities around major project pursuits and strategies
Hold regular meetings with Los Angeles-based Planning and Environmental staff, to monitor weekly work activities, scheduled time-off, planned conference or event attendance, and overall work/life balance concerns
Foster an environment of growth, communication, and coordination, between Los Angeles-based Planning and Environmental staff, as well as all other staff in the Los Angeles office
Work closely with specific staff to assist in the development or refinement of specific skills required for better staff management and coordination
The selected candidate will be an important part of the Senior Leadership team in the Los Angeles office, and will
Work closely with the Los Angeles Area Manager and others as part of the Senior Leadership team in the Los Angeles office to promote and provide for a vibrant, collaborative and enriching office environment

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Environmental Planning, Public Policy, Business or related field
Outstanding professional communications and management skills, highlighting a track-record of leading and coordinating activities of multiple staff in complex team environments
Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience working on public infrastructure projects in a major urban area in the U.S.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience of managing and leading teams in the delivery of high quality planning and environmental projects
A core understanding of the role of planning and environmental principles and practices in the broader development and delivery of major urban transportation and infrastructure projects
A positive attitude and a proven ability to exude calm under pressure
Interest in mentoring and managing junior staff
Master's degree in Planning, Environmental Planning, Public Policy, Business or related field
Experience working with public agencies in the greater Los Angeles region
Affiliation with national professional organizations such as ULI, APA, or similar
Familiarity with Southern California transportation planning issues
