Basic Function:

Coordinate the day-to-day operations and management of Kent Student Center (KSC). Primary responsibilities include overseeing the student operations staff; conducting ongoing inspections of the facility to identify risk management issues, as well as maintenance and/or custodial needs; promoting and enforcing facility policies and procedures, working to enhance student engagement and customer service within the facility; and assisting in event management and provide support on nights and weekends. Reports to Senior Assistant Director, Kent Student Center or designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Coordinate the student employee hiring process, including recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new student employees

  • Develop, implement, and lead staff training focused on facility policies, risk management, customer service, diversity and inclusion, reservations, and event management

  • Evaluate and update employee manuals and records

  • Coordinate staff schedules; adjust scheduling process based on area needs, special events, and budget

  • Plan and facilitate student operations staff meetings

  • Review and approve student employees' hours in

  • Provide student employees with continual feedback, mentoring, recognition program, and a performance reviews

Conduct daily building walkthroughs to ensure proper upkeep, cleaning, storage, and safety standards are met; identify, report, and follow up on maintenance and/or custodial needs via the university's work order system; collaborate with supervisor to develop, implement, and evaluate facility policies and procedures.

Direct and coordinate emergency evacuation procedures; develop and maintain a communication plan within the building and with police and fire; conduct training programs and practice drills to ensure all employees know what to do in case of an emergency; identify and correct risk management issues and/or concerns.

Keep abreast of all daily and weekly events in Kent Student Center (KSC); provide input to the weekly to-do-list that meets the needs of KSC and takes into account the needs of KSC student employees; provide support for event setups and teardowns as needed.

Monitor service and maintain Trafsys hardware; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of building usage; evaluate the results of overall operations regularly and report results to supervisor to ensure he/she is fully informed of all significant operating issues.

Ensure the safety and accessibility of all events managed by the Kent Student Center.

Implement Kent Student Center policies and procedures.

Participate in event security meetings in conjunction with Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and KSU Police Department for the purposes of previewing events and ordering event security.

Manage radio inventory and distribution.

Manage and maintain the KSC Information Center and the services it provides to the Kent State community.

Contact and coordinate with third party vendors and suppliers to make up for equipment shortages.

Participate in departmental meetings and committees.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

  • OR- a combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree.

Four years of experience in operations management, facility management or related experience, to include two years of supervisory experience.

Experience working with campus-wide scheduling software.

Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

License/Certification:

CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

Knowledge Of:

Event Management Software or other scheduling software

Event planning and small program management

Emergency management

Diagramming software

Skill In:

Event planning with a focus on detail*

Development, implementation, and evaluation of projects from initiation to completion

Resolving problems independently and making decisions in a timely manner

Supervising others*

Customer service

Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite

Adhering to deadlines

Ability To:

Preferred Qualifications - if applicable:

Specific knowledge of non-linear audio, video, and lighting control systems and familiarity with content creative software such as Adobe Creative Design Suite.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
