Job Description: As the Kitchen Manager of our high school, you will oversee all aspects of the kitchen operations to ensure efficient and effective food service (breakfast and lunch) for our ~1,000 students. You will be responsible for managing and directing team members, ordering, food preparation, inventory management as well as but not limited to compliance with health and safety regulations. Your goal will be to maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene and customer satisfaction while operating within budgetary constraints. This role will report directly to the Food Services Director as well as Food Services Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute nutritious and appealing meals that meet the current USDA guidelines and preferences of high school students.

  • Supervise kitchen staff, including the Assistant Kitchen Manager and provide training and guidance as needed.

  • Coordinate food preparation and cooking activities to ensure timely service and minimize waste.

  • Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies and place orders as necessary to maintain sufficient stock.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including proper food handling, sanitation and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas.

  • Be conscious of costs and expenses to optimize efficiency while maintaining quality standards.

  • Collaborate with school administration, teachers and students to gather feedback and make adjustments to the menu and service as needed.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations and best practices in school food service and incorporate them into kitchen operations.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a school or institutional food service setting.

  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques, nutrition, and food safety protocols.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor kitchen staff.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with staff, students and other stakeholders. Proficient computer skills.

  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and maintenance.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; food safety (ServSafe) certification is a plus.

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
