Kitchen Lead

Job Overview: The Kitchen Lead will work directly with our Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef and other School Nutrition Team members.
We are looking for a food service professional that is dedicated to re-envisioning the way food is served to children in schools. The Kitchen Lead will assist in implementing, coordinating and maintaining the breakfast, lunch, and snack program while following instructions from our Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef. The Kitchen Lead will ensure our meals follow the National School Lunch Program dietary guidelines as well as bring creativity, passion, a collaborative attitude, and tenacity to build on the model for school food.
Reports To: The position is directly supervised by the Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef at Mundo Verde PCS.
Responsibilities and Duties
Food Service
Assist in Planning, Coordinating and Implementing meal services daily
Work with Kitchen Manager/Lead Chef to safely execute nutritional school meals and snacks
Oversee the prep and cooking of the allergy specific meals daily
Collaborate with other staff, assist in training staff on meal preparation techniques and equipment usage
Complete daily production records for NSLP compliance, entering all food prep items
Keep facilities clean, safe, and follow food safety protocols
Ensure meals and snacks are served in a timely manner
Maintain a high level of quality
Food Nutrition Ambassador
Engage with Mundo Verde community and create food engagement opportunities
Positively represent the Mundo Verde Meals Program in the community
Meals Program Coordination
Ensure proper meal count entry, liaising with teachers when needed
Follow safe and sanitary food handling procedures at all times
Ensure that food service equipment is maintained to meet the needs of the operation
Implement and monitor safety policies and procedures
Assist in the monitoring and review of breakfast and lunch program procedures in order to maintain compliance with the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program guidelines
Maintain necessary files and records
Assist in recording Production Records
Monitoring Food Prep and Temperature Control
Supervising Duties
Assist in directing the work of meals coordinator and kitchen support staff, providing consistent and timely feedback
Meet monthly with supervisor to evaluate progress, growth and performance using Mundo Verde's evaluation process
School and Community Support
Some evening and weekend events
Summer duties will likely involve support for the Operations Team that are not limited to Food and Meals programming
Qualifications, Skills and Values
Qualifications
Candidates must have a culinary degree or at least 2 years working in a kitchen
Must be able to repetitively lift 30 pounds and make decisions in accordance with established procedures
Demonstrated working knowledge of google and microsoft suite, including file management and spreadsheet skills
Minimum one years experience supervising or managing staff
Proactive attitude with the ability to work independently and direct the work of others
A demonstrated interest in working with school aged children and a desire and commitment to learn National School Lunch Program guidelines required
Advanced or native proficiency of English required and intermediate, advanced or native proficiency of Spanish preferred
Experience with sustainable practices preferred
Food Safety Manager License (within the first 6 months)

Other Job Details
Schedule: 8 hours a day and other occasional evening events
Location: Assigned campus
Position Type: This is a 12-month salaried position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
Employment subject to TB test, fingerprinting and background check
