JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Kindergarten Literacy Paraprofessional
Qualifications:
1.Associates Degree Preferred
2.Minimum experience as determined by the Principal
3.Ability to engage in effective professional development with as
directed by our Literacy Coach.
4.Demonstrated ability to support the classroom teacher in working with students towards greater literacy development and language
learning.
5.Possess effective problem-solving, human relations, and
communication skills
6.Willingness to keep abreast of changing technologies and to
implement them in the classroom as directed.
7.Must exhibit the proper attitudes and personal qualities necessary to assist students in improving their literacy skills.
8.Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S.
citizenship or legal resident alien status
Reports to: School Principal
Job Goal: Assist Kindergarten Teacher and Literacy Coach in literacy instruction for our Kindergarten students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Work with individual students or small groups to develop literacy skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
2.Participate in professional development programs, faculty meetings and special events as needed.
3.Understands guided reading and balanced literacy to the extent necessary to assist the teacher and the students in the development of their reading skills.
4.Understands Schoolwide Writing to the extent necessary to assist the teacher and the students in the development of their writing skills.
5.Assists in managing the behavior of students and assisting throughout the work period with supervising students in a variety of locations.
6.Keep the teacher informed of student progress.
7.Performs a variety of clerical and computer-related tasks as assigned to chart out student progress.
8.Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
9.Performs reliably, dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility and time management.
Develops job-related abilities, skills and knowledge.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Literacy Specialist and School Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year and salary to be determined by the negotiated agreement between the Chester Board of Education and Chester
Education Association.
EVALUATION Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the board's policy on
evaluation of non-certified staff.
