Kindergarten Instructional Aide For The 2024-2025 School Year

Pay Rate: $18/hr.

Instructional Aide Responsibilities:

• Assist teachers in the classroom

• Facilitate and supervise groups of students as needed by the teacher

• Supervise the playground at recess and lunch

• Make copies of instructional materials as directed by the teacher

• Check homework, classwork as instructed by the teacher

• Record student scores/ grades per teacher rubric and instruction

• Assist with checking student planners

• List any needs presented through the planner that the teacher may need to address

• Provide technology assistance to students as needed by the teacher

• Help teacher facilitate the admission of the STAR Assessment to students

• Attend Support Staff meetings

• Communicate concerns regarding students to teacher and/or Principal

• Complete all and any tasks that are assigned or volunteered for at the beginning of the academic year

Hot Lunch Assistance:

• Coordinate the distribution of hot lunches

• Delivers lunches to Preschool and Kindergarten

• Supervises student behavior when students are waiting for lunches

• Maintains hot lunch log as lunches are distributed

Extended Care:

• Check in/check out students from Extended Care

• Supervise children during their participation in Extended Care

• Coordinates distribution of snacks

• Communicates any concerns to parents regarding their children's behavior, health or safety

• Assist in purchasing snacks and maintain inventory

• Communicates any concerns regarding environment, injuries and particularly safety issues to Extended Care Coordinator, Principal and office staff via the Incident Log report form

Religious Qualifications:

• Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
• Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy

Professional Qualifications:

• Possess a High School Diploma or GED

• Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)

• Experience working with youth

• Positive professional references and recommendations

Physical Requirements:

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:

• Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating

• Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.

• Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces

• Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending

• Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class

• Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
