JOB GOAL:To create an elementary grade program that promotes academic excellence through differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for future education, in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members; to maintain a positive climate of open communication and cooperation w/parents, students, administrators and other staff members.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

I.Demonstrates currency in Early Childhood Education.

A.Demonstrates a working knowledge of an elementary Kindergarten program.

B.Frames curriculum around key learning standards/concepts that provide opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments.

C.Keeps current in early childhood research and pedagogy and applies that knowledge to the instructional program in Kindergarten.

D.Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the Kindergarten program.

II. Conducts effective planning and assessment of the Kindergarten program.

A. Effectively plans instruction and assessment and monitors student's understanding of the curriculum. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.

III.Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement in Kindergarten.

IV. Delivers instruction effectively.

A. The teacher makes the kindergarten learning goals clear to students and uses appropriate instructional techniques.

B. The teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies, including cooperative, peer and project-based learning; audio-visual presentations, lecture, discussions and inquiry, practice and application; and the teaching of others.

C.The teacher uses appropriate questioning techniques.

D. The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.

V. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations in Kindergarten for student achievement.

VI. Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.

A.The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.

VII. Fulfills all professional responsibilities

A. Cooperates in interactions with parents and is receptive to their contributions.

B. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district.

C.Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning.

VIII. Completes any other duty or assignments as directed by the Principal.
