Kinder Camp Counselor

STARTING PAY: $15.00/hour

DESCRIPTION:

Kinder Camp serves our youngest camper population comprised of 3.5-5-year-old campers who have not yet attended Kindergarten. We offer half-day and full-day options to the campers in the program. Campers will enjoy days filled with fun unique themed activities that include: music, arts, field trips, crafts, games, physical activities, and additional opportunities for learning, and much more. Many camp activities will be outdoors, weather permitting.

Camp will run from 8:30am-3:30pm each day in and around the Community Center, Nursery School Rooms. We also offer Before Care from 7:30am - 8:45am and After Care from 3:30pm-6:30pm.

Kinder Camp Counselors are responsible for planning and leading high-quality fun and educational programs for groups of 12-15 children. Counselors will have the opportunity to grow professionally and lead activities and work collaboratively to maintain positive relationships with parents, children, and co-workers. Kinder Camp Counselors must ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting the physical demands of the position.

DUTIES:

  • Help create, implement, and enthusiastically participate in the daily schedule for your camp group.

  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing routine, and more.

  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.

  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of hazardous objects.

  • Communicate with parents about participant's experiences and report concerns to camp leadership.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.

  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.

  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers' safety and their whereabouts at all times.

  • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area/body of water, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate as of June 17, 2024.

  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.

  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.

  • Ability to adapt and be flexible if there are last minute changes.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • First Aid and CPR certification or willing to become certified before camp preferred.

  • Available Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am-6:00pm.

  • Available for the mandatory orientation prior to camp (date TBD).

  • Available to work at least two or all four camp sessions preferred.

CAMP SESSION DATES:

  • Session One: June 17 - June 28 (no camp June 19)
  • Session Two: July 1 -- July 12 (no camp July 4)
  • Session Three: July 15 -- July 26
  • Session Four: July 29 - August 9
