Position Overview

As an Entry Level Design Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. This role is located in Ingleside, TX.

District Overview

Kiewit Offshore Services, a district (or business unit) of Kiewit Corporation that builds structurally complex jackets and topsides for offshore oil drilling rigs. Located in Ingleside, TX, 20 minutes outside of Corpus Christi, the 550-acre fabrication yard is the workplace of 300 staff employees and 1400 craft employees who work in the yard year-round. Location

This position is based out of Ingleside, TX. (Corpus Christi, TX area)

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer. Seeks out more experienced engineer for guidance and expertise.

  • Has solid foundation of engineering basics (statistics, trigonometry, algebra) and the critical thinking skills necessary to apply this knowledge.

  • Expand knowledge through training and work experience.

  • Learn codes and standards to complete assignments.

  • Utilize structural engineering software in day-today activities.

  • Perform non-routine technical assignments of limited scope related to lift plans, transport plans, loadouts, etc.

  • Perform tasks according to company procedures, industry codes, and regulations.

  • Work cooperatively with staff and craft of all disciplines to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and implementable.

  • Perform lift analysis and work with drafters to produce field drawings (lifting points, rigging, cranes, sequencing).

  • Participate in field operations and perform inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Marine engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year program

  • 0-2 years' minimum relevant experience

  • Knowledgeable in engineering software - AutoCAD, MathCAD, Bentley SACS (preferred).

  • Travel < 25% expected.

  • Receives direction from more experienced engineer.

  • Adjusts to varying demands of work and able to be agile to manage workload based on activity.

  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Presents ideas clearly and in a professional manner.

  • Effectively participates in a team environment. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team.

  • Develops cooperative working relationships and open communication within and across groups, to work towards solutions that benefit all involved parties. Seeks expertise, advice and perspectives from a variety of sources.

  • Consults with senior team members to receive direction for internal customers.

  • Able to manage responsibilities and meet deadlines under supervision.
