Description
The America250KY Research Specialist provides professional support to The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) in its role as the administrative agency for the Kentucky Sestercentennial (America250KY) Commission. The America250KY Research Specialist is a member on the Research and Publications team, with their primary focus to support American250KY activities, working closely with colleagues across KHS with a similar focus of developing America250KY projects.
This position will conduct research aligned with the themes established by the America250KY Commission and create content for exhibits, publications, digital history projects, interpretive programs, and more. It will also highlight KHS collections to the public and showcase the importance of Kentucky history and research.
This position will play a key role in the advancement of the Kentucky Historical Society's mission, values, and strategic priorities and the success of the America250KY Commission.
The America 250 KY is a multi-year, statewide commemoration of the 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is a full-time, time-limited position that concludes on December 31, 2026.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with KHS staff to conduct research and create content for programs, services, and publications related to the America250KY.
Assist with content for the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society, KHS's quarterly, peer-reviewed journal, including special issues related to the America250KY.
Assist KHS and tourism partners with research and content creation for statewide or regional tourism/heritage trails and other tourism development opportunities.
Research and create content for audiovisual programs on various platforms, including local television, public television, online platforms, and more.
Assist external partners with research and content creation, as needed.
May include Kentucky Tourism, Arts, and Heritage Cabinet partners, statewide museums and local history organizations, local tourism offices, public libraries, civic organizations, and more.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: An undergraduate degree in history or a related field is required. Master's degree in history, public history, museum studies, or a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Experience conducting in-depth, history-related archival research

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Ability to research and write quickly, concisely, and clearly for a public audience, including translating large concepts and synthesizing key talking points or components. Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with a broader team. Ability to handle multiple complex projects at the same time.
Working Conditions
Must be able to handle fragile archival materials safely. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods.
This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday schedule during regular KHS operational hours, but must be able to work the occasional evening or weekend to provide for the needs of KHS in its programming and services for its museum and special event guests. This position's primary office is in the Thomas Clark Kentucky History Center in downtown Frankfort, Kentucky. Must be willing to occasionally travel in Kentucky and out-of-state.
