SUMMARY

Provide leadership for day to day functioning of outpatient service location. In overview, the lead clinical therapist provides direct care to clients, supervises staff and assists with the daily operations of the assigned site.

QUALIFICATIONS

The clinical therapist is an independently licensed professional in the behavioral health field (LICSW, LMHC, LMFT). The clinical therapist must be organized, able to function in a calm manner during crisis situations and have demonstrated sound clinical judgment and ability to manage multiples demands on a daily basis. This role requires a certain level of flexibility and the individual must be able to transition from different tasks throughout the work day.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master degree and Independent licensure required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform initial screening, intake and assessment, orientation, crisis intervention, counseling, screening, case management, client education, staff education, referral, treatment planning, and consultation for clients in the program.

Perform a comprehensive psychosocial assessment of assigned consumers.

  • Treat consumers with respect.

  • Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.

  • Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM IV).

  • Perform and record mental status examination.

  • Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others.

  • Collect pertinent data from appropriate collateral sources in accordance with confidentiality guidelines.

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizations policy and legal requirements.

  • Develop and present, verbally and in writing, a clear clinical formulation based on behavioral data and relevant theory while incorporating psychosocial and family issues.

  • Use psychiatric consultation and intervention when clinically appropriate.

  • Use knowledge to decide appropriate levels of care in order to refer to various points in the continuum of care.

Provide individual, group, and family mental health and/or substance abuse therapy.

  • Treat consumers with respect.

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.

  • Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input.

  • Apply knowledge of psychopathology and primary methodologies of psychotherapy.

  • Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM IV).

  • Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others.

  • Develop and present, verbally and in writing, a clear clinical formulation based on behavioral data and relevant theory while incorporating psychosocial and family issues.

  • Identify specific therapeutic interventions appropriate for specific problems.

  • Provide brief psychotherapy if appropriate.

  • Provide group therapy.

  • Use psychiatric consultation and intervention when clinically appropriate.

  • Use knowledge to decide appropriate levels of care in order to refer to various points in the continuum of care.

Collaborate with other providers, agencies, and individuals in the consumers' network of care.

  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity of mental health and/or substance abuse and other related community agencies.

  • Communicate with various local agencies and individuals

Perform record keeping in accordance with Health Information Services and other Center requirements.

  • Complete initial assessment

  • Complete progress notes with appropriate format.

  • Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input.

  • Complete a clear, specific, behaviorally oriented treatment plan as required

  • Complete insurance documentation as required.

  • Complete required reports and evaluations.

  • Follow required office procedures in a cooperative manner.

Coordinate a variety of services.

  • Treat consumers with respect.

  • Provide support counseling, problem-solving, contracts and limit setting.

  • Establish attainable goals with the consumer.

  • Involve consumers, agencies and others in planning.

  • Assist consumers in deciding which areas they want to address.

  • Assist consumers with basic medical procedures and hygiene needs.

  • Encourage consumers to attain the highest possible levels of independence.

  • Accept the values and lifestyles of consumers.

  • Use a flexible approach with a diverse population.

  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the development and implementation of therapeutic services, to include working with substance abusers, as it relates to case management.

  • Present verbally a synopsis of actual cases as required.

  • Accompany consumers to appointments with agencies, clinics, doctors, etc.

Make assessments and provide appropriate crisis interventions and risk management as needed.

  • Treat consumers with respect.

  • Assess consumers' unmet needs (psychological, physical, housing, and psychiatric).

  • Identify, assess and respond to crisis situations.

  • Use a flexible approach with a diverse population.

  • Perform in a calm and professional manner during crises or emergency situations.

Complete record keeping in accordance with Health Information Services and other contractual requirements

  • Complete progress notes with appropriate format.

  • Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input.

  • Complete a clear, specific, behaviorally oriented treatment plan as required, with consumer signature.

  • Monitor confidentiality in accordance with policy and legal requirements.

  • Complete required reports and evaluations

  • Follow required office procedures in a cooperative manner.

  • Initiate and process incident reports as per company guidelines.

  • Adhere to Infection Control protocols.

Maintain cooperative relationships with other employees, consumers and the public.

  • Communicate effectively with staff, representatives of other agencies and the public.

  • Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.

  • Deal with co-workers regarding problems in a constructive manner.

  • Accept and use direction and supervision.

  • Benefit from constructive criticism.

Attend trainings and conferences.

  • Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended.

OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

  • Serve on appropriate Center committees.

This position also requires some evening hours. SUMMARY Provide community based treatment for youth and family with complex clinical, social and educational problems. Over a period of 3 - 5 months, services are delivered in homes, neighborhoods, schools and communities. Emphasis is on promoting behavioral change in the youths natural environment. Family interventions seek to promote the parents capacity to monitor and discipline the adolescent. Initial family sessions identify the strengths and weaknesses of the youth, his family, peers, school, and other factors. Problems throughout the family are explicitly identified for change, and the strengths of each system are used to facilitate such change. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Perform a comprehensive psychosocial assessment of assigned consumers. * Provide individual, group, and family mental health and/or substance abuse therapy. * Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM IV). * Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others. * Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries and relations with clients in accordance with Center . * Ensure collection of urine samples and complete related paperwork as required by contract. Transport consumers in own vehicle or Center van to planned activities and appointments. Complete recordkeeping in accordance with Health Information Services (HIS) and other Center requirements within required time frames and abide by Center confidentiality policy. Maintain cooperative relationships with other employees, consumers and the public. Attend trainings and conferences. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must demonstrate: * Knowledge about human development for children, ages 12-21, including the ability to identify developmental delays. * Skill in evaluation and clinical treatment with children, ages 12-21, and their families, with serious emotional disturbance and behavior disorders. * Basic knowledge about psychiatric medication and is aware of significant side effects. * Must possess theoretical knowledge and application of various treatment modes/modalities including: family systems, social ecological, behavioral therapies, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and pragmatic (i.e. structural, strategic and functional) family therapies. * Must be able to adapt treatment techniques in a flexibly manner to meet client/family needs. * Knowledge of social skills assessment and intervention. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE A Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field, plus two (2) years of work experience in social work or clinical treatment. LICSW/ LMFT/ LMHC preferred. Must have experience with community based work and/or severely emotionally disturbed adolescents. Experience with implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youths natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school) is preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS Bilingual Spanish preferred. Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before team members and other employees and have the capacity to work with other community agencies.
