Position Summary

The Key Account Manager (KAM) will act as the primary customer interface, providing comprehensive disease & product knowledge, executing Sales & Marketing strategies in the designated territory.

Target cities for territory is the greater St. Louis area candidates must live within geographical boundary of the designated territory. No relocation assistance will be provided.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Sales Performance

  • Consistently achieves or exceeds sales objectives in assigned territory.

  • Achieves marketing and sales objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for customer segments in the assigned territory.

  • Act decisively and responsively by prioritizing budget allocation to meet territory objectives.

  • Effectively implements marketing initiatives in order to achieve sales goals.

Customer Knowledge & Market Insights

  • Prioritize customers and opportunities to maximize impact leveraging all available data sets and stakeholder input to inform effective decision making.

  • Successfully seek out and qualify leads and effectively profile new accounts.

  • Partner with the advocacy team to support education and disease state awareness in the local community.

  • Strong understanding of the local managed care environment and effectively communicate approved key reimbursement information to healthcare providers.

  • Execute marketing programs across customer segments and present approved materials to deliver value added messaging in a compelling and compliant manner.

Business Analytics and Sales/Territory Planning

  • Develop and implement business plans that will provide direction to meet or exceed territory sales goals.

  • Continually evaluate and refine call planning / routing to optimize schedule based on unique local territory factors such as access: geographic span, collaborative commitments and customer needs.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners (medical, reimbursement support, managed market team and specialty pharmacy among others) to communicate customer needs, help build and deliver appropriate solutions to meet those needs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven organizational skills with ability to problem solve and manage multiple priorities in parallel

  • Facilitates open and honest conversations with colleagues and gives candid ongoing feedback.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university


  • 7+ years of Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical sales experience required

  • Proven, documented track record of delivering consistent sales results

  • Experience promoting products specific to CNS/neuroscience including: epilepsy, orphan and/or rare diseases highly preferred

  • New product launch experience preferred

  • Experience calling on customers at a variety of call points (i.e. academic centers, community-based, hospitals and private practice offices).

  • Knowledge and experience with Hospital sales processes required

  • Specialty pharmacy experience preferred.

Motor Vehicle Record Requirements

  • Valid license in state of residence.

  • No less than 1 year of driving experience.

  • No more than 1 major violation in the past 5 years.

  • No more than 3 moving violations or chargeable accidents in the past 3 years.

Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to travel domestically as required
  • 50% - 75% travel required, depending on geography (includes frequent overnight and weekend travel)

Background Check Requirements

  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screening as required by Zogenix.

Their primary responsibility is to assess and diagnose the current business environment in each of their assigned accounts in relation to Amgen Cardiovascular products and plan/execute actions for success in these accounts. The ideal candidate will be able to work internally through the matrix team, and externally with customers to develop strong relationships for Amgen to support portfolio performance and brand strategies at multiple touch points and levels within complex partner organizations. Role Responsibilities: * Key account strategic lead; Develops and executes innovative strategies to reach difficult to access health care providers and accounts in a compliant manner * Maintains comprehensive account profile / needs assessment / strategic plan * Responsible for routinely meeting with appropriate opinion leaders in Cardiology, Lipidology, Pharmacy, P&T Committee, etc., that act as stakeholders or decision-makers within the Health System Manager assigned accounts * Presents MAC approved data and CV product messaging for approved CV products and delivers clinical messages compliantly within all governing policies * Accountable for ensuring formulary adoption in targeted / assigned hospital accounts to help drive appropriate utilization of approved CV products; works with other sales colleagues to manage and coordinate pull-through and access * Monitors Amgen business performance across Cardiovascular portfolio * Identifies drivers/barriers and coordinates pull-through initiatives across field teams (Sales Representatives, District Sales Managers, Regional Sales Directors, Reimbursement/Access Specialists, Nurse Educators, Regional Marketing Managers, and the Value Based Partnership Team) * Coordinates Amgen home office engagement with customers; Works collectively with matrix and alliance team members to arrange approved promotional programs, displays and hospital initiatives that will effectively and compliantly promote assigned products * Builds and develops professional relationships with key customer decision-makers, to include (but not limited to), Hospital Pharmacy, Lipid Clinical, Heart Failure Clinical and Quality Directors (inpatient and outpatient), hospital finance decision makers within assigned accounts * Partners closely with Organized Customer Team Regional Account Executives and Regional Medical Liaisons in shared accounts * Coordinates with Reimbursement Access Value team to support open access to Amgen portfolio * Provides actionable field intelligence and recommendations to Amgen home office, including CV brand teams * Provides field insight/recommendations to Pricing/Brand/GPO teams * Leads contract delivery, business reviews and performance tracking * Organizes competitive response * Shapes the environment * Executes value/FDAMA 114 tools where appropriate * Supports value of innovation Basic Qualifications: Doctorate degree & 2 years of sales experience;
