Position Summary

Zogenix is a global biopharmaceutical company committed to developing and commercializing transformative therapies to improve the lives of patients and their families living with rare diseases.

The Key Account Manager (KAM) will act as the primary customer interface, providing comprehensive disease & product knowledge, executing Sales & Marketing strategies in the designated territory.

Target cities for the territory is Miami candidates must live within geographical boundary of the designated territory. No relocation assistance will be provided.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Sales Performance

  • Consistently achieves or exceeds sales objectives in assigned territory.

  • Achieves marketing and sales objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for customer segments in the assigned territory.

  • Act decisively and responsively by prioritizing budget allocation to meet territory objectives.

  • Effectively implements marketing initiatives in order to achieve sales goals.

Customer Knowledge & Market Insights

  • Prioritize customers and opportunities to maximize impact leveraging all available data sets and stakeholder input to inform effective decision making.

  • Successfully seek out and qualify leads and effectively profile new accounts.

  • Partner with the advocacy team to support education and disease state awareness in the local community.

  • Strong understanding of the local managed care environment and effectively communicate approved key reimbursement information to healthcare providers.

  • Execute marketing programs across customer segments and present approved materials to deliver value added messaging in a compelling and compliant manner.

Business Analytics and Sales/Territory Planning

  • Develop and implement business plans that will provide direction to meet or exceed territory sales goals.

  • Continually evaluate and refine call planning / routing to optimize schedule based on unique local territory factors such as access: geographic span, collaborative commitments and customer needs.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners (medical, reimbursement support, managed market team and specialty pharmacy among others) to communicate customer needs, help build and deliver appropriate solutions to meet those needs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven organizational skills with ability to problem solve and manage multiple priorities in parallel

  • Facilitates open and honest conversations with colleagues and gives candid ongoing feedback.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university


  • 7+ years of Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical sales experience required

  • Proven, documented track record of delivering consistent sales results

  • Experience promoting products specific to CNS/neuroscience including: epilepsy, orphan and/or rare diseases highly preferred

  • New product launch experience preferred

  • Experience calling on customers at a variety of call points (i.e. academic centers, community-based, hospitals and private practice offices).

  • Knowledge and experience with Hospital sales processes required

  • Specialty pharmacy experience preferred.

Motor Vehicle Record Requirements

  • Valid license in state of residence.

  • No less than 1 year of driving experience.

  • No more than 1 major violation in the past 5 years.

  • No more than 3 moving violations or chargeable accidents in the past 3 years.

Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to travel domestically as required
  • 50% - 75% travel required, depending on geography (includes frequent overnight and weekend travel)

Background Check Requirements

  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screening as required by Zogenix.

Collaborate with buyer/category manager in order to develop mutually successful programs that deliver profitable sales to the client and Costa Farms. Monitor the performance of overall business as well as specific programs and communicate the results to the buyer and/or planner/analyst. Identify and provide solutions in order to meet the customer's expectations and exceed them. Communicate with sales director and upper management on internal KPI's and those of each customer. Take a proactive approach to managing internal profitability, while balancing sales and gross margin. Monitor and impact current and future performance by analyzing item level, category, and account level profitability, recommending product mix changes that achieve sales and profit margin targets. Business development - Engage current customer and drive mutually profitable sales for both Costa and the customer. Prospect potential customers and establish new sales. Prepare sales presentations that communicate the benefit of doing business with Costa Farms. Provide excellent customer service in all aspects of the relationship between the customer and Costa Farms. Participate in trade shows, seminars, and industry related events in order to build on the company's reputation to grow our market share. Business execution - Enter orders into sales module and follow through until delivery. Communicate in a timely manner with category management, shipping and logistics. Follow up and direct the efforts of any applicable service teams both internal and/or external. Communicate with members of customer's operations teams and or store management. Program development - Collaborate with the product development/marketing team to develop successful programs which meet the customer's expectations. Oversee all of the details required to bring program to market including: tag and pop materials ordering, packaging/rack requirements and inspection. Follow up with production team to ensure proper item selection and spec. Business analytics– Analyze performance of program at top level as well as individual item level. Identify opportunities to improve performance for both the customer and Costa Farms. Provide reporting to the key decision makers of both the customer and upper management at Costa Farms. Set production plan for future business through collaboration with sales director and category management.
