We are currently seeking a Biodiversity & Animal Welfare Specialistwho will report to the Head of Sustainability Sourcing Innovation. The specialist will be part of a team of experts in the Sustainability Department at Kering's Corporate Headquarters in Paris.
You will be a scientific, technical and operational expert to provide guidance and advice on all subjects related to biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services and animal welfare. Working closely with the Luxury brands of the Group to support their sustainability priorities.
The focus of work will be across the entire supply chain but with a particular attention on the sourcing of strategic raw materials that go into the brands' products (e.g. leathers, precious skins, fibres etc.)
He/she needs to have detailed knowledge and experience of the interdependence between ecosystem services and material sourcing.
How you will contribute
Supporting Kering and the Brands as a key expert that can analyse the relationship between biodiversity/ecosystems and the production/extraction of raw materials used in the brands' supply chains with the goal of helping to craft solutions to meet the 2025 Sustainability Agenda
Ensuring that Kering brands have a sustainable sourcing of animal raw materials. The specialist will, in particular, help ensure that Kering's brand supply chains meet the highest standards around integrating biodiversity conservation into the business.
Driving the implementation of the animal welfare policy in Kering's supply chains. Supporting Kering and Brands as they roll-out the Animal Welfare standards across animal-based raw materials. This work includes liaising with external experts and auditors and ensuring that the Standards themselves reflect the highest levels of best practice.
Providing ad-hoc technical support to brands on programs focused on biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration and animal welfare. This includes working directly with a range of raw material suppliers including performing due diligence in the field and/or on farms.
Conducting internal analysis and research on raw material sourcing across the brands to help identify priority areas for action and to support the Kering Operations Team's work on the Environment Profit and Loss accounting.
Supporting the work of the Programme Team (and for the Brands) as a liaison between the international scientific and conservation NGO communities on topics around biodiversity/landscape conservation and ecosystem services, sustainable agricultural production, REDD+ etc. This includes being able to represent Kering on various multi-stakeholder platforms (industry, NGOs, civil society) and sectorial business platforms.
Who you are
Master's degree or PhD and training/experience in biodiversity conservation highly appreciated
Understanding of and experience in biodiversity conservation and animal welfare issues in global supply chains. Particular experience in different approaches to biodiversity conservation
Excellent network and relationship with NGOs, research and academic institutions working on the topics of sustainable use and production, biodiversity conservation and animal welfare
Strong project management and team coordination skills. Willingness to support any and all aspects of project management that is needed to get the job done.
Excellent communication skills and ability to present and promote projects within Kering brands and externally
Strong ability to work independently and to be proactive. Cooperative, flexible to work in group, strong interpersonal skills
Fluent in English (spoken and written) with additional strong knowledge of French or Italian preferred
Experience and willingness to travel frequently and independently
5+ years of successful experience in the field of corporate sustainability or sustainable procurement across global supply chains
Experience in a position requiring the management of many internal and external stakeholders
