High school education or GED equivalent. At least one year experience as a dog warden or shelter/kennel manager highly preferred. Advanced knowledge of Chapter 955 of the Ohio Revised Code relative to the housing, feeding, caring for, destroying and disposing of unlicensed and stray dogs. Ability to instruct in the safe operation of dog kennels and related practices. Advanced knowledge of the safe and efficient operations of a dog kennel. Ability to communicate effectively with management and clients and give public presentations when needed. Ability to prioritize work efforts. Ability to compile and prepare reports, handle sensitive inquiries from officials and the general public is required. Ability to establish and maintain a budget including a daily cash book (e.g. cash received, books balanced, and deposits made), and the payment of invoices is required. Ability to work with dogs, recognize different breeds of dogs, recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action is preferred. Ability to assist in feeding and exercising the dogs as needed. Ability to walk, run, jump, crawl, climb, and stoop on uneven surfaces. Must have and maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Under administrative direction from the Deputy Assistant County Administrator, plans, controls, directs, and oversees the Clermont County Kennel, including the Dog Warden's Office. Responsible for supervising staff and ensuring laws in the applicable sections of the Ohio Revised Code are enforced. Develops and monitors budget, schedules and assigns work and on-call schedules, interviews and recommends the hiring of staff, recommends commendations and discipline, receives and resolves employee complaints. Recommends and administers the Office's policies. Ensures dog bites and predator claims on livestock are investigated and recommendations are made for restitution, if applicable. Attends meetings, gives presentations to the Commissioners, community groups, and the general public. Ensures that the dog kennel facility is clean and dogs under the control of the Warden are properly fed, exercised and maintained. Serves as liaison between the Kennel and other state, county, and local agencies. Ensures that records of licenses sold, warnings issued, citations issued, charges filed, and licenses purchased in the prior year but not renewed are maintained. Coordinates volunteer activities.

Diligently works with other organizations and the general public to promote foster and adoption of dogs to minimize euthanasia. Responsible for coordinating functional areas of operations including fostering and adoption programs, shelter marketing and community outreach, and volunteer and partner coordination. Develops short and long-range plans for the Kennel and makes recommendations for changes to improve Kennel outcomes. Cooperates with other agencies (prosecutor's office and local law enforcement) and offices in the investigation and prosecution of offenses.

Ensures proper maintenance schedules for all assigned vehicles and equipment. Maintains daily mileage forms on all assigned vehicles. Maintains monthly operational inventory and makes purchases as needed. Completes all reports accurately and in a timely manner. Receives messages, provides general information and transmit messages to appropriate personnel. Performs clerical functions and operates office equipment as needed.

Works alone or with other persons in short- or long-term team projects to resolve problems or conflicts in any area of county operations or to complete assigned projects. Participates in cross-training and maintains proficiency in area of cross-training as necessary. New and other related duties as assigned. Works aggressively to reduce or eliminate safety/risk concerns in current position or work location.
