Role Overview: The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) and Lincoln Center Education (LCE) are pleased to announce the 2024 William R. Kenan, Jr. Performing Arts Fellowship at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. This fellowship seeks to support fellows in their transition from a conservatory training program to the NYC professional artistic community and to the work of Lincoln Center Education. At Lincoln Center, the successful candidate will be engaged in the following areas: arts education administration, teaching artistry, supporting Lincoln Center Education Initiatives, network building, and opportunities to develop their artistry. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment, curiosity, and be conversant in the pillars of LCEs work: de-colonizing arts canons, de-gendering arts pedagogy, Access, and Inclusion.

Lincoln Center Education is recruiting for a cohort of 4 Fellows who are graduates of UNCSA's undergraduate or graduate programs in the Schools of Dance, Drama, and Music. Classes of 2024, 2023, and 2022 are eligible to apply. For those students currently on campus, Interviews will take place in person at the UNCSA campus in Winston-Salem, NC March 27-29, 2024. Applicants are encouraged to engage in an experiential workshop with Lincoln Center Education staff modelling effective teaching artist practice based in LCEs approach to teaching and learning. Those who are not on campus may request an interview in-person at Lincoln Center or virtually on Zoom.

The Kenan Fellowship is based in New York City, runs from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 and a 29-hour per week employment commitment. What you'll get to do here:

Arts Education Practice and Teaching Artistry 35%: As an artist with an expressed interest in Arts Education

  • Be trained in LCEs approach to teaching and learning in the arts as well as best practices in arts instruction and training

  • Provide support in LCEs Emergent Artist Initiatives programs including Young Artist Pipeline, Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp, under the leadership and guidance of master teaching artists

  • Learn about education initiatives, departments, and missions at Lincoln Center and the ecosystem of NYC arts organizations

  • Practice teaching artistry in on-campus activations

  • Learn about accessibility practices in the arts and support the Access Ambassadors and Lincoln Center Moments programs facilitated by LCPAs Accessibility team

  • Support Big Umbrella Festival, which centers audiences with autism and other developmental disabilities by sharing unique approaches to sensory-based, interactive, and intimate artistic experiences to meet audiences exactly as they are.

Professional Capacities 35%: As part of the Lincoln Center Education Team…

  • Fellows will work in different areas of the Education Team in support of ongoing and future initiatives

  • Fellows will attend monthly education meetings and have the opportunity to see how initiatives move from ideation to realization

  • Fellows will assist with logistics and operations as needed

  • Fellows will support convenings, panels, and other education events

  • Fellows will have the opportunity to learn about the work of other teams at Lincoln Center and how the organization works interdependently to accomplish goals

Networking 10%: As an Emergent Artist at Lincoln Center

  • You will be supported in making useful connections in your professional field and in the arts education field

  • Develop an understanding of the mission, priorities, and organizational structure of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

  • Build a community of artistic and civic practice with peers and the LCPA community

  • Engage in facilitated introductions to education and programming leadership at NYC arts organizations

  • Mentor-facilitated networking opportunities

Artistry 20%: As an Emerging Artist at Lincoln Center

  • Fellows will have the opportunity to conceive and propose an artistic project that meets established criteria

  • Engage collaborators to perform, develop materials and creative assets

  • Interact with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts production and technical teams to realize project

  • Create a production budget to supplement resources provided by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Education Team

  • Manage and lead a rehearsal and production process

  • Create a marketing and outreach strategy to advance work

Support with:

  • Facilitation during Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp, Young Artist Pipeline, Emergent Artist Programming,

  • Learn about and support other Education Initiatives to which you are assigned

  • Assist and support the Education Team in meeting administrative and logistical needs

  • Attend all required Education Team Meetings

Application: Applications will open on February 22, 2024. All applications must be received by Friday, March 22, 2024 at 5pm. Interviews will be scheduled on UNCSA Campus on a date to be determined by Lincoln Center Education. Applicants will be notified of their status the week of April 15, 2024.
