Do you want to play outside for a living? Are you thinking to yourself, what could be better? Great news! REI is currently hiring Outdoor School Instructors! The REI Outdoor School is a place where people can learn the basics needed to embark on a new adventure. In this role, you will provide the gear and instruction to REI members and customers for activities which include: Rock Climbing, Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddle boarding, Mountain Biking, Road Cycling, Hiking, Backpacking, Camping, Natural History, Outdoor Photography and Navigation Outings for both Map & Compass and GPS. Combine your passion with your work. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Successfully lead REI Outdoor School programs

  • Teach in-store educational classes and in-the-field programs for REI customers to include delivery of class content, customer service during the outing, and the safety of all the participants

  • Maintain equipment and coordinate outing logistics

  • Coach large groups of people and lead instructional events and give effective feedback to participants

  • Knowledge in the course content, demonstrating the designated activity or sport with safety and skill

  • Partner with store management teams, market coordinator teams, local business partners as well as local outdoor organizations

  • This position reports to the REI Outdoor Programs and Outreach Market Manager

Do you thrive in the outdoors and want to help others do the same? REI Outdoor School provides entry-level to intermediate-level outdoor education programs. Here are the skills and experience levels we look for in our Outdoor Instructors:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in outdoor education with experience teaching and/or guiding outdoor programs.

  • Demonstrated outdoor leadership skills to include excellent teaching and presentation abilities, and planning and organizational skills

  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills

  • Commitment to extraordinary customer service with the ability to effectively resolve difficult customer issues

  • Applicable certification or equivalent experience in technical outdoor education preferred

  • Regional knowledge of local outdoor venues and resources is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of legal and risk management issues related to outdoor education

  • Required Certification in Wilderness First Aid and CPR

  • Valid driver's license with no negative incidents and ability to acquire commercial driver's license which includes medical screen and to pass a drug screen

  • Experience as a Wilderness First Responder (preferred)

  • Computer skills using MS PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and the Internet

CPR certification required. * * Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Good clinical skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. * Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Arranges for the provision of specialized assessments that can not be conducted in the home environment (e.g., audiological testing, videofluroscopy studies), and plans adequately for discharge including referrals to appropriate community resources (e.g., outpatient therapy, day care) able to meet the client needs after discharge. * Communicates with supervisor as scheduled and needed regarding issues related to the delivery of rehab services and individual patient care. * Contributes to the achievement of established goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Completes annual Code of Conduct, Compliance and other mandatory training. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. * Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and agency in community outreach efforts. Enhances growth and development and enriches personal knowledge and skill through participation in educational programs and affiliations. * Maintains ongoing communication with the patient's physician, health care team, and other individuals (e.g. insurance case managers, referring facility personnel) as needed regarding aspects of care and patient's status. * Performs other duties as assigned. * Provides an assessment, in conjunction with the health care team, of the patient's environment and recommending adaptive equipment and/or home modifications that will maximize the patient's functional abilities and safety. Assists in the attainment of those items that are reimbursable as durable medical equipment. * Provides initial and periodic assessments to determine the patient's habilitation/rehabilitation needs. Establishes an effective speech language pathology/dysphasia treatment plan in conjunction with the patient, their family/caregiver, the patient's physician and other members of the health care team. Modifies the treatment plan as needed. Evaluation includes interview, observation, palpation, specialized assessments including but not limited to dysphasia assessment, oral motor exam, and receptive/ expressive language assessment. Such assessments require the use of tools (e.g., sphygmomanometer, stethoscope) and the possession of sight and hearing senses or the use of prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately. * Provides medical record entries according to agency standards, professional guidelines, and regulatory requirements for the reimbursement of speech language pathology services. * Provides patient and/or caregiver education regarding the injury/disease process, functional limitations, and the purpose of treatment interventions, in addition to, training in aspects of care the patient/caregiver will need to manage after discharge. * Provides speech language pathology/dysphasia services in accordance with the treatment plan, agency standards, and other professional and regulatory guidelines. Performs procedures and modalities, including but not limited to associative language exercises, oral motor exercises, aural rehab, and thermal stimulation. * Supervises home health aides in aspects of patient care and related activities.
