SECURITY CANINE HANDLER

JOB SUMMARY

The K9 Handler will utilize their knowledge and expertise in the training and handling of a certified explosive detection K9 partner to conduct property sweeps to locate suspicious packages or objects that may contain explosive material to ensure a safe environment and minimize potential liability for employees and guests of Caesars Entertainment.

The K9 Handler will assist and liaise effectively with Caesars Entertainment Security personnel, law enforcement agencies and local partners as requested and will perform all duties in accordance with Caesars Entertainment policies and procedures, and within the realm of the Caesars Entertainment mission statement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The K9 Handler will be responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, guests, company assets and property by utilizing a trained and certified explosive detection K9 partner to locate suspect packages or objects that may contain explosive material.

  • Specific responsibilities and duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

  • The K9 Handler will train and certify with explosive detection trained canine.

  • The K9 Handler will utilize canine as directed to protect life and property of Caesars Entertainment and in support of designated operations.

  • The K9 Handler will search vehicles, CET executive aircraft, packages, mail, containers, rooms, backpacks, buildings, areas, or other objects as directed that could contain explosive materials.

  • The K9 Handler will maintain the canine's proficiency in explosives detection through routine training and certification.

  • The K9 Handler will maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs, to include maintaining diet, ensuring adequate water throughout the day, and daily health checks and grooming.

  • The K9 Handler will maintain all assigned canine related equipment.

  • The K9 Handler will conduct daily kennel care as directed for the assigned dogs.

  • The K9 Handler will perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed.

  • The K9 Handler will provide excellent guest service to guests and employees.

  • The K9 Handler will act as a First Responder in emergency situations.

  • The K9 Handler will conduct specialty training on, but not limited to CPR/AED, etc.

  • The K9 Handler will perform all other job-related duties as requested in accordance with Caesars Entertainment policies and procedures, and within the realm of the Caesars Entertainment mission statement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years prior experience preferred in law enforcement, military or private security.

  • Ability to pass a company approved canine certification course within the first 90 days of employment.

  • Maintain annual K9 certifications.

  • Must possess interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.

  • Must be able to work varied shifts, be available for incident/emergency response duty, standby duty, and client demonstrations, which may include weekends, holidays, nights and overnights.

  • Must be approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to handle explosive material.

  • A working knowledge in the area of investigations, possess investigative and analytical skills.

  • Set an example and be a role model / leader for all Security personnel through observance of all departmental policies and procedures.

  • Must be "team centered" and promote a positive work environment. Must work well with other departments and management as necessary.

  • Must be tactful, maintain confidences, and foster an ethical work environment, prevent inappropriate behavior by co-workers, handle all situations honestly.

  • Able to communicate clearly with staff, management, and the public through oral and written word.

  • Must be able to assume a role of authority as necessary in a high-risk crisis, exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues, review facts, weigh options, delegate responsibility, and empower associates to make decisions, provide constructive feedback.

  • Must show respect and be able to adapt to different values, cultures, or backgrounds when dealing with difficult people or situations. Build and maintain long term associations based on trust, help others.

  • Neat, professional appearance with good personal hygiene and may wear the appropriate attire as required for the assignment. Professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.

  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Must pass the physical and written testing of the Las Vegas Region Security Academy (C.O.D.E.S., Defensive Tactics, Legal Issues, Handcuffing, Tactical Communications, Use of Force, Report Writing, Searching Subjects, Emergency Response, Ethics, and Expandable Baton) within the first ninety days of employment.

  • Must maintain annual certification in explosive canine detection handling.

  • Must be able to obtain and possess a Nevada Gaming License

  • Must have a current and valid Nevada Driver's License and clean driving record.

  • Must be CPR certified.

  • Must be able to respond calmly in crisis and stressful situations and be able to make rational decisions when handling guest and employee issues.

  • Must be able to physically restrain individuals when condition of arrest exists.

  • Must be able to work and stand inside and outside, sometimes in heat in excess of 115 degrees, or cold as low as 10 degrees.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Must be able to stoop, bend, jump, twist, crouch, grip, carry heavy loads and maneuver quickly on level surfaces, as well as up and down stairs.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Must be able to push or pull up to 150 pounds.

  • Must be able to tolerate areas containing secondhand smoke, high noise levels, bright lights and dust.

Las Vegas Region Armed Canine (K-9) Special Response Team (SRT) Manager
