Job Summary

The K-8 School Counselor is responsible for implementing a comprehensive counseling program to promote student success through academic, career, and personal/social development. They work to identify and manage chronic absenteeism, develop intervention strategies, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators. The counselor provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and connects families with external support services. This role demands maintaining confidentiality, adhering to professional ethics, and continuously evaluating program effectiveness to address students' needs and enhance their educational journey. Responsibilities:

• Implement and evaluate a comprehensive counseling program for academic, career, and personal/social development.

• Provide individual and group counseling to support students' well-being and academic performance.

• Identify and manage chronic absenteeism, developing targeted intervention strategies.

• Conduct home visits to engage with families and address barriers to student attendance and success.

• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create supportive educational environments.

• Conduct crisis intervention and connect students and families with external support services.

• Makes appropriate referrals within the school and various outside community agencies.

• Serve as liaison to other agencies, students, school personnel, families and community organizations; maintain relations between school, the community and community services; respond to inquiries and provide information.

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics in all interactions and records. Knowledge of: -Effective personal and academic counseling techniques and procedures.

• Counseling theory, ethics and associated legal confidentiality requirements.

• Principles, practices and procedures of educational and career counseling.

• Specific laws regarding minors and child abuse reporting
