GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION: The primary goal of the K-14 Advisor is to establish relationships with a caseload of students from area high schools to encourage and assist toward enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College.

The K-14 Advisor will provide strategic guidance to high school students for a completion pathway to high wage/high demand employment. The K-14 Advisor will also work closely with the assigned high school(s) and Ivy Tech stakeholders on dual credit/dual enrollment, while identifying gaps in dual credit/dual enrollment offerings that must be available to lead to an Ivy Tech credential/conversion.

Ivy Tech is an outstanding and accessible option for many high school students, including those without a post-secondary plan, and will be on the forefront of the Advisor's referral plan, which may increase the conversion rate of traditional age applicants to Ivy Tech.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guide high school students without a post-secondary plan to possible career options that range from workforce-ready short-term training to associate degree options and beyond.

Assist students with post-secondary planning (Enrollment, Employment, Enlistment).

Effectively utilize Ivy Tech systems and platforms to determine students' progress toward an Ivy Tech credential.

Utilize community resources that support student access and success in college.

Advise students on the transitions from high school to Ivy Tech (and/or other higher ed institutions) to work.

In conjunction with high school guidance counselors, support dual credit application/registration processes in the DualEnroll platform.

Inform students of the placement options to help identify student eligibility for dual credit/dual enrollment classes.

Track student contacts (advising, appointments, etc.) and progress for reporting purposes.

Participate fully in school activities targeted to students and parents logically associated with the college process, as appropriate, which may include occasional evening/weekend hours.

Maintain accountability for K-14 metrics (i.e. enrollment, retention, completions, conversion).

Communicate closely and regularly with the guidance staff at applicable high schools/career centers.

Communicate with students and parents the benefits of Ivy Tech and Dual Credit.

Conduct all activities at the high schools/career centers within the guidelines of the respective school and state laws.

Attend Ivy Tech on-campus recruitment programs, dual credit nights, new student orientation, and other programs logically associated with the role.

Must stay current with Ivy Tech academic programs and resources, admissions and registration processes, career and high school education trends, and requirements of the Indiana Department of Education.

The K-14 Advisor will attend Ivy Tech meetings, training sessions, and other activities, as necessary.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum two years of relevant professional work experience preferred.

Must be able to pass a background check and be able to work with high school age students.

Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects required.

Must possess excellent relationship building skills (phone, e-mail, and written) and experience in public speaking. Proficiency in Microsoft Applications is required; experience with a Customer Relationship Management tool is preferred.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds, have a valid driver's license, be willing and able to travel, and work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.

Experience in K-12 or college-level work and training or teaching experience with young adults preferred.

Must be able to maintain the ability to work in all assigned high schools.

Must demonstrate the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.
