Summary: To enable each child to pursue his or her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Fill in for absent teachers on daily basis as needed

  • Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.

  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.

  • Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.

  • Consults as appropriate, with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Guide.

  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.

  • Reports in writing, on the form provided by the school secretary, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.

  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

Education and/or Experience

BA Degree, High School Diploma or GED may be used.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid AZ Substitute Teacher or Emergency Substitute Teacher Certificate

Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Daily rate of pay as established by the Governing Board.

  • Days based on approved school calendar

  • Full time site base position

Clearances

  • IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination

  • Valid I-9 form
