Purpose:
The K-12 Public School Social Worker helps students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment for district staff, students and families
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a current license from the Arkansas Social Work Licensing Board
Masters preferred.
Experience working in public schools
Experience with analyzing behaviors that could facilitate Functional Behavior Assessments and behavior plans
Ability to read and interpret documents including the analysis of district assessment data
In addition, as an organization/community that reflects and appreciates diversity, bilingual communication skills are noted and value
Medicaid billing experience highly desirable
Position is grant-funded and renewed in subsequent years based on the availability of funds
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive school social work services to parents, students, and school staff, addressing barriers that limit a student from receiving the full benefit from their educational experience
Respond to referrals from school administration, parents, teachers, special education committees, and others by providing direct services and by assisting families in accessing appropriate community resources
Provides individual and group counseling and support to students
Provides support to classroom teachers
Responds to crisis situations in schools
Implements appropriate programs, groups and initiatives to target at-risk populations
Consults with families whose problems result in an impact on the student's educational progress
Works with community agencies and groups to assist in developing appropriate intervention strategies
Maintains positive working relationships with principal, teachers and staff
Fulfills routine requests made by supervisory and administrative staff promptly and cooperatively
Avails self and participates in opportunities for professional growth
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations
Assist in identifying students who are at risk based on specific criteria, and the early recognition and prevention of educational problems
Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions
Participate as a team member in comprehensive evaluation, review and re-evaluation processes
Collaborate on the development of the student's Individual Education Plan, 504, behavior and/or student support plan
Consult with students regarding their learning and behavioral support needs and counsel them as necessary
Other Requirements
Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally
Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting and kneeling
