JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to a Juvenile Probation Supervisor, responsible for providing case management and supervision of youth on assigned caseload using trauma-informed practices. Level I of II in Juvenile Probation. Location will be in ROUND ROCK, TX.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Understands, practices, and promotes the vision of Williamson County Juvenile Services

  • Maintains daily focus on the department's service philosophy when interacting with youth, including emphasis on Developmental Assets, Developmental Relationships, SPARK identification, Motivational Interviewing, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)

  • Engages with youth on caseload to develop relationships and focus efforts toward diversion of youth from commitment to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD)

  • Models positive behavior and leadership to youth in all interactions

  • Redirects youth behavior using appropriate trauma-focused interventions when necessary

  • Interviews and counsel offenders and families in development and rehabilitation

  • Appears in juvenile court and testifies in hearings regarding youth on caseload

  • Provides supervision of youth on Conditions of Release, monitor compliance with Electronic Monitor for youth placed on Deferred Prosecution and Court Ordered Probation

  • Maintains compliance with daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly contact and case plan standards

  • Coordinates and transports juveniles for various appointments outside the facility, and for placement in out-of-county and TJJD facilities

  • Develops relationships and communicates regularly with personnel in law enforcement, schools, courts, community organizations, and other social service agencies

  • Readily complies with departmental/countywide policies and TJJD standards

FIELD ASSIGNMENT:

  • Supervises youth on probation to include deferred, formal and out of county placements

  • Engages youth in identifying and developing SPARK interests, and work with community partners to establish opportunities for youth

  • Perform any/all Court Assignment duties, as needed, for juveniles on caseload

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to use non-violent physical restraint and non-hostile management of aggressive behavior

  • Position requires prolonged walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, twisting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, squatting, writing, and typing in the performance of daily activities

  • Position involves operating motor vehicles

  • Position involves using mechanical restraint devices (handcuffs and leg shackles)

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

  • Continuous contact with youth accused of or adjudicated for various crimes

  • Work is primarily conducted indoors in air-conditioned building

  • May be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)

IRREGULAR HOURS

  • Serves on-call on a 24-hour basis.

  • Requires flexibility to work days, evenings, and/or weekend hours

  • Ability to work scheduled Saturdays supervising juveniles in programs

  • Non-Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations, unless employees are designated by Department Heads

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)

  • Completion of one year of graduate study in a field approved by TJJD or one year of full-time work experience in a juvenile supervision related field approved by TJJD

  • Per Texas Administrative Code Section 344.200, be at least 21 years of age

  • Have a non-disqualifying criminal history as defined in Texas Administrative Code Chapter 344.400

  • Maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required by date of employment

  • Written proof of one year of related work experience from previous employer (on employer's letterhead to include; dates of employment, description of job duties, and performance) OR certified original of Master's degree transcript

  • Valid driver's license

Required within six (6) months of employment

  • Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Probation Officer certification

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification

  • First aid certification

  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

  • Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) trained

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual Spanish speaker

  • Knowledge of and skill with basic computer programsto complete forms and required documentation for caseload management

  • Priorexperience with at-risk youth
