JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, maintains custody and security of youth offenders and maintains order in the juvenile facilities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforces all institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.

  • Enforces rules, regulations, and state laws necessary for control and management of offenders and the maintenance of public safety.

  • Escorts offenders in transit and during temporary leaves.

  • Guards facility entrances in order to screen visitors.

  • Handles and trains canines for tracking, search and rescue, guard duty, detection of contraband. Inspects, inventories, maintains physical control of, logs keys, tools, weapons and related equipment.

  • Maintains order, discipline, and security within assigned areas in accordance with relevant rules, regulations, policies and laws.

  • Observes conduct and behavior of offenders to prevent disturbances and escapes.

  • Oversees offenders during work assignments, meals, and recreation periods.

  • Patrols assigned areas and report any problems.

  • Prepares admission, program, releases, transfers and other reports.

  • Responds to emergencies.

  • Takes offenders in custody and escort to locations within and outside of the facility.

  • Transports offenders to and from correctional facilities.

NOTE:

The position will require 24 hours on-call and extensive state-wide travel and overnight stays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T. certification AND One year of experience required at the lower level Correctional Officer 1 (PSP060) or position equivalent.

Military Salary Increase Incentive Amount:

  • 2.5% for one year of active duty service
  • 5% for two years of active duty service
  • 7.5% for three years of active duty service
  • 10% for 4 years of active duty service

PREFERRED QUALIFICATOINS:

Preference will be given to applicants, who in the addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess two or more of the following:

  • Eighteen (18) months or more of prior military or law enforcement experience

  • Two (2) years of college credits or an Associate's Degree from an accredited university

  • Experience in correctional security operations and/or tactical emergency response

  • Advanced training in correctional security, tactical operations, intelligence, investigations, interviewing techniques, instructional presentations.

  • Basic LE Mandate

  • Basic computer skills to include Word, Excel, Power Point

  • Bilingual

VIEW JOBS 10/7/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-05T00:00 JOB SUMMARY: This is hourly paid work, that provides structured cognitive behavioral and/or life-skills group counseling sessions, documents all programmatic activities, and performs a variety of administrative duties designed to facilitate juvenile rehabilitation and ensure a safe and secure environment at a youth detention or long-term facilities. This position is part-time and requires less than 30 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. NOTE: This is a 29 hour per week position. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: * Support of the delivery of all programs & case management services and substance abuse services (RYDCs only) in assigned facilities. * Works with program staff to ensure that services are in keeping with best practices and departmental policy. * Under limited direction, provides structured cognitive behavioral and/or life-skills group counseling sessions, documents all programmatic activities, and performs a variety of administrative duties designed to facilitate juvenile rehabilitation and ensure a safe and secure environment at a youth detention or long-term facilities. * Some duties will include: Facilitate or Co-facilitate Groups lead or participate in facility wide PBIS activities (if applicable), work hours to include Afternoon/evening/Holiday/Weekends, and conduct weekend visitation support. * Conducts rounds daily on the living unit to ensure youth needs are identified and addressed. * Provides evening and weekend coverage to provide for the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of youth. * Performs or directs admission and orientation of youth in accordance with policy. * The primary focus of the Support Services Worker is to deliver Programming to youths. The Support Service Worker will also be trained in additional areas to assist the Juvenile Detention Counselor when critical need is present. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. AGENCY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the areas of: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling or a directly related field.
