Junior Web Developer - Full Stack

Couple has an opening for an experienced Junior Web Developer with skills and experience in PHP/MySQL and JavaScript to join a growing team creating a new online-dating product for singles across the globe. We are expanding rapidly and are looking for additional help from a Junior Web Developer to help us scale up our application as we deploy to different venues and verticals.

Couple is a fast-growing startup in the $10B online-dating industry with a product that serves singles in a fun and unique way. Couple’s website technology is currently built on a LAMP stack using Twilio video.

Couple is supported by a PHP/MySQL site and applications using SendGrid and Twilio SMS, along with Facebook and Google APIs for user and event authentication, communication and management; and soon will be working with Stripe for accepting payments.

Couple is part of Lawyer.com/World Media Group LLC, whose business interests include Sweet.io in NYC, Scientist.com, Calendar.com, and Outerspace.com.

The Junior Web Developer will be expected to work directly under a senior member of the development team, implement best practices in development, and deliver innovative technology using agile processes. The Junior Web Developer will assist in building our web and video technology drawing on their experience with full-stack development and JavaScript development. The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of SendGrid and Twilio, and/or working with other business and communication APIs and can quickly develop a working knowledge and skills in that technology. The Junior Web Developer will work with the senior development team member to help define implementation strategies that deliver value quickly in small increments while enabling easy adaptation for future enhancements. Implementing those strategies should be done with software engineering best practices and clean code that can be easily interpreted by other technical team members.

The Junior Web Developer will be expected to stay up to date on the latest web technologies and general technology advancements in web development, and business trends in our market. Where applicable, the Junior Web Developer will attend industry conferences, complete training courses, and maintain required certifications. The Junior Web Developer will assist in architecting innovative solutions to business requirements and will balance requirements of the product, marketing, operations, and finance teams. All code will be robust, reliable, well-documented and scalable. Code performance metrics will be tracked and analyzed.

For production issues, the Junior Web Developer will be expected to be available for afterhours production issues and other events which may occur that would rely on their technical expertise to help remediate problems and determine improvements for the platform as they develop. This entails 1-2 days of the week being available in the evening for a 2-3 hour event outside of normal work hours where food and drink will be provided.

Requirements

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related major.
• Demonstrated excellence in studies, standardized tests and competitions.
• 1-2 years full-time coding experience.
• Experienced working with JavaScript, PHP, and other web-based scripting languages.
• Experienced with back-end development, particularly on the LAMP stack.
• Experienced with front-end design and development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.).
• Experience implementing software with third-party APIs and libraries.
• Highly analytical, able to optimize diverse requirements into innovative solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Passion for learning and mastering new skills.
• A strong sense of ownership and personal accountability.
• Will follow up on critical work after hours when required.

• Short commute to Basking Ridge, NJ office (Part-time Remote available after onboarded).

Ideal Requirements:

• Personal website, mobile app, hardware or robotics experience.
• Experience with big data platforms and data collection tools.
• Familiarity with High Availability web and database architectures and software.
• Design experience using Photoshop, wireframes tools, JavaScript libraries.
• Experience with transactional email platforms, feedback loops, and allow lists.
• Have used Stripe payment or other payment APIs.
• Experience with Twilio for video, voice, and SMS communication.
• Experience with Java, Python, Google App Engine.
• Experience with Cloud management platforms, such as AWS, Azure.
• Experience with Software repository technology, such as Git or SVN.
• Experience with Google development tools for frontend debugging and mobile responsiveness tools.
• Experience with an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), such as IntelliJ, PhpStorm, Netbeans, etc.
