This role will initially be at a junior level with scope for continued career development maturing into an advanced role.</p><p>Maintain effective internal control of Linux and storage systems via research, development, implementation, optimization, and associated project management of “open systems” related IT infrastructure assignments and projects.</p><p>Action and monitor helpdesk tickets and workflows in your areas of responsibility.</p><p>Provide support and engineering of layered UNIX/Linux infrastructure components and core applications such as job scheduling, systems backup, market data feeds/tools , layered databases, and business applications as necessary. </p><p>Interaction, knowledge sharing and communication with all IT staff and business end-users. </p><p><strong>Role responsibilities</strong></p><p> Project engineering, management and research for Linux/UNIX and storage tasks and projects.</p><p> Perform production and development infrastructure support, maintaining and enhancing the existing Linux &amp; storage systems infrastructure.</p><p> Assist other team members in managing Linux &amp; storage infrastructure (SAN &amp; NAS storage systems).</p><p> Provide in-depth performance investigations and root cause analysis as necessary within specialist realms.</p><p> Apply troubleshooting techniques with desire to yield timely results.</p><p> Use VMWare or Linux native tools to template / deploy / configure / manage Linux &amp; storage Virtual Machines.</p><p> Use storage vendor tools and VMWare tools to configure storage replication and snapshots.</p><p> Oversee and manage performance using appropriate reporting &amp; monitoring tools.</p><p> Action requests for new Linux &amp; storage &amp; storage systems.</p><p> Provide input and support for infrastructure and application development projects that require Linux infrastructure.</p><p> Ongoing evaluation and analysis of the Linux, UNIX &amp; storage infrastructure to provide optimum performance.</p><p> Maintain market &amp; industry awareness of new products that could offer improved value to the business.</p><p> Datacenter logistics and maintenance - planning, monitoring, implementation (power / environmental / security).</p><p> Liaise with appropriate application development representatives to optimise value to the business.</p><p> Liaise with third party vendor operations management.</p><p> Provision of core on-site daily coverage with overnight and weekend on-call support as needed.</p><p> Maintain good working relationships.</p><p><strong>Applicable to all staff</strong></p><p> <strong>General</strong></p><p>Ensure the business area conducts its activity in accordance with all relevant external regulators and Information Security policies.</p><p></p><p> <strong>Compliance</strong></p><p>Ensure compliance with the regulatory and statutory requirements and Information Security compliance policies and procedures affecting the business area. Report any breaches of regulations to Legal and Compliance. </p><p></p><p> <strong>Risk Management</strong></p><p>Ensure the business unit operates in accordance with stipulated risk management policies and procedures, covering market risk, credit risk and operational risk. Ensure failures and shortcomings in policies and procedures are reported.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Essential Experience: (Must have skills)</strong></p><p></p><p>A bachelors degree majoring in Computer Science (or close equivalent) required. Recent graduates without industry experience must demonstrate a consistently high level of academic achievement throughout their degree term and have conducted recent relevant internships. </p><p>Practical experience and knowledge of Linux Operating Systems. Exposure to Linux RedHat Enterprise Server 7.x (or CentOS equivalent) or other commercial Linux distributions. </p><p>Experience with the following UNIX/Linux technologies:</p><p>NFS, Kerberos, Automounter, Jumpstart / Kickstart, DNS, SMTP, SNMP, NTP, syslog, Logical Volume Manager (LVM2), selinux, Linux file-systems such as EXT3, XFS, UFS, ZFS. </p><p>Both theoretical and practical knowledge of core networking skills, e.g. a good understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP, subnets, routers, switches, ports, sockets, client-server communications.</p><p>Understanding of core disk technologies including SCSI, SAS, SATA, SSD, FCAL, NVMe. Familiarity with Fiber Channel, iSCSI storage protocols. </p><p>Understanding of traditional monolithic storage arrays, modern hyper converged and cloud storage technology offerings. </p><p>Theoretical and practical understanding of Windows storage protocols such as CIFS, SMB, NTFS file-systems and experience with Windows file sharing and windows file security.</p><p>Previous exposure to storage software/appliances and storage hardware technologies in both NAS/ SAN areas. </p><p>Able to demonstrate operational programming skills and ability to adhoc script or automate common tasks in a high level or scripted programming language such as Perl, python, borne shell or using custom dev-ops tools such as Puppet, Ansible or Chef. </p><p>Project management skills – project organization, meeting management, general communications. </p><p>Recent design, installation, projects and/or production support experience of IT infrastructure (e.g. during internships).</p><p></p><p><strong>Supplementary Experience: (Useful additional skills)</strong></p><p> RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Redhat certifications </p><p> General Linux certifications.</p><p> Oracle Sun Certified UNIX certifications</p><p> NetApp storage certifications </p><p> Fibre Channel SAN storage experience: Brocade or Cisco midrange Fibre channel switches. </p><p> NetApp product experience: NetApp OnCommand System Manager, OnComannd Performance Manager, Config Advisor, NetApp Management Console, NetApp Performance Console, NetApp SnapMirror replication</p><p> Windows &amp; VMWare Infrastructure and administration experience, eg. ESXi 6.5, Windows 2012, Windows 2008.</p><p> Exposure to some of the following useful:</p><p> Centrify DirectControl.</p><p> Generic financial systems, market data experience an advantage.</p><p> Eagle Investment Systems (Eagle Suite) – STAR/PACE.</p><p> Thompson Reuters Market Data software and Standard &amp; Poors Market Data Loaders.</p><p> Enterprise Job Scheduling infrastructure experience (CA Workload Automation / Autosys) .</p><p> Backup technologies such as Symantec NetBackup</p><p> Enterprise monitoring solutions, such as Solarwinds / Tivoli / BMC Patrol.</p><p> Redhat Kickstart</p><p> Dev Ops: docker / puppet.</p><p><strong>Personal Attributes: </strong></p><p> Self-motivated individual.</p><p> Good time management and project management skills</p><p> Hardworking and dedicated team player.</p><p> Excellent communication – written and verbal.</p><p> Ability to interact with staff at all levels including senior management.</p><p> Strong investigative skills, problem solving skills &amp; perseverance.</p><p> Ability to balance work/life with weekend work and on-call support 24x7</p><p> Possess a genuine interest in IT.</p> Pierce Technology Corp Newark NJ
