Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking Junior Technician Junior Highway Inspector to join one of our three Michigan office locations in Lansing, Novi, and/or Traverse City.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications

  • Inspect various facets of the road and/or bridge items of work on the construction site to determine acceptability

  • Follow applicable quality control and/or quality assurance practices and procedures

  • Monitor the contractor's construction work for compliance with all project documents including the plans, specifications, contractor submittals, etc.

  • Determine that the installed materials meet all specification and testing requirements and that they are from approved sources

  • Report any deficiencies in the contractor's work to the Engineer in Charge or their designee

  • Measure, calculate, and determine all quantities of assigned work and/or installed materials

  • Prepare Inspector's Daily Reports (IDRS) using FieldBook and/or other required computer software

  • Other assigned duties

Skills / Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2-5 years' minimum experience in construction engineering and inspection in field and office assignments on transportation construction projects in road and/or bridge items of work

  • Required Certifications and Training:

  • MDOT FieldManager Training

  • Michigan Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) Comprehensive Certification

  • Storm Water Operator Certification

  • Michigan Concrete Field Testing MCA Level 1 Minimum

  • Must pass drug test, entrance physical, and background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy


  • Associates Degree in Civil Technology

  • MDOT Bridge Deck Construction Inspection & Bridge Rehabilitation Inspection

  • MDOT Hot Mix Asphalt (Bituminous) Paving or MDOT Hot Mix Asphalt (Bituminous) Paving Operations Certification

  • Michigan Certified Aggregate Technician

  • MDOT Density Technology Certification

Physical Demands

  • Working outside in various, inclement weather conditions, uneven terrain as necessary

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment as necessary

  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function

  • Office/Field work with computer

VIEW JOBS 10/14/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-12T00:00 Team Elmer's seeks to fill an opening for a Mechanic- GPS Technician at the Traverse City location. This position will be responsible for all GPS installations on company assets. This will be the primary function of this position. Secondary, will be serving as a mechanic to diagnose, repair and inspect cars, trucks and heavy construction equipment in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner. Mechanics work cooperatively with a lead mechanic and other fellow mechanics to ensure work order completion or continuation and that daily work productivity occurs. Duties and Responsibilities: Primary duties include: * Installation of GPS devices in company assets * Trouble shooting, device configuration, analyze root cause problem solving * Documentation of service and installation actions via reports, forms, logs or records * Investigating issues, conducting test; resolving problems Secondary duties include: * Perform routine and preventative maintenance work orders as assigned * Build, rebuild and repair all parts of cars, trucks and heavy equipment * Diagnose any mechanical, electrical, other breakdown or failure * Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the components parts and systems * Engine (diesel) knowledge and repair * Evaluate parts based upon reuse or replacement needs * Inspect equipment used including backhoes, dump trucks, tractors, etc. * Read precision instruments. Micrometers, dial indicators, bored gauges, etc. * When applicable use welding skills * Keep work area clean and organized * Know and follows all OSHA, MSHA and company safety policies and procedures * Other duties as assigned "The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position."
