Raytheon IIS/GIS provides Operations and Maintenance support for the Intelligence Community

Job Description:

Raytheon is currently seeking an Entry-level Software Maintenance Engineer to provide engineering support to maintain high-priority operational systems at a high level of availability and to resolve problems based on mission criticality and guidance.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Performs software application maintenance on assigned mission systems running a variety of operating systems to include Solaris, UNIX, and Linux under supervision. Detects, isolates, documents, quickly reports, and resolves system outages, or problems encountered during operations of the operational system baseline, which includes the collection of diagnostic data, restoring the system operation, development of workarounds, and other activities necessary for recovery of a system. Works under supervision of peers and management.

  • Accurately documents problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.

  • Supports system engineering groups for ongoing analysis and integration efforts.

  • Works with other maintenance engineers

  • Works under pressure in restoring high-priority systems to operations

Required Skills:

  • Must have a current DODI 8570.01-M IAT Level II (Security+ CE) (minimum) certification

  • Must have the ability to evaluate LINUX or UNIX log files and assess error conditions, under supervision

  • Must have the ability modify LINUX or UNIX scripts and configuration files, under supervision

  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot software issues on Solaris, UNIX, and Linux platforms, under supervision

  • Must have the ability to identify and isolate discrepancies to software, hardware, database, scripts or configurations, under supervision

  • Requires good communication skills in order for the effective and accurate exchange of information

  • Requires ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment with changing priorities

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with UNIX and LINUX E1 and system administration skills

  • Exposure to LINUX and UNIX platforms

  • Exposure to VMS platforms

  • Desired experience with C and C++ on LINUX and UNIX platforms.

  • Have the ability to modify or create configuration controlled software, test changes to verify requirements, and install builds in a controlled operational environment, under supervision

Educational Requirement:

  • Requires a BS Degree or 8 years of equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.

Qualified applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship and an active TS/SCI security clearance with CI polygraph are required.

If the ideal candidate is found, he/she may work in our San Diego or Aurora, Colorado locations. Approximately 5% travel will be required if located in CA or CO (~2-4 days every 12 weeks). This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience supporting an important, fast-paced, mission critical program. JOB SUMMARY: The Software Engineer will provide software development support from concept through development and integration to deployment of a large complex system. The successful candidate will have demonstrable skills in use case development, CONOP development, requirements derivation, design, testing, and implementing business logic and Web User Interface (UI) for a security-related business processing application and will establish/manage/verify data in accordance with security regulations. Recent experience in an operational environment is strongly preferred. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Software Engineer will be responsible for supporting lifecycle development of capabilities using CMMI ML-3 processes in an Agile software development lifecycle (SDLC). The individual will analyze and study complex system requirements, use design software tools, provide support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, and other accepted design techniques with the use of Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools and will use sound software engineering principles to ensure that developed code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, fault tolerant, and reusable. The individual will provide software process management and control throughout the coding portion of the software development process. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * TS/SCI with Polygraph Clearance REQUIRED * Requires Masters Degree with 15 - 20 years of prior relevant experience or Doctorate with 13 - 16 years of prior relevant experience. * Specific experience using programming languages and tools such as JAVA/JEE, SOAP, WSDL, WADL, and Oracle RDBMS * Experience with User Interface development, knowledge of databases and structures, and experience working with XHTML, HTML, XML, XSLT, Windows, and UNIX and Linux operating systems * Must have a solid understanding of sound software development principles and practices * Must be able to plan and prioritize personal tasking and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing * Must be an independent thinker, capable of performing high quality work, both independently and with a team, in a fast-moving environment PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Experience with the following: JEE, SQL, application servers (Tomcat, Weblogic, JBoss), scripting * Experience with high level requirements management including requirements decomposition, secure systems engineering and development, trade-off analysis, interface control, and testing and continuous integration * Experience in software development on Agile teams using Agile Developer practices such as Pair Programming, TDD, Refactoring, and ATDD. * Experience with FITNesse, Mockito, and C++ preferred. * Secure Software development (i.e. Layer 7 Policy) External Referral Eligible Leidos is a Fortune 500® information technology, engineering, and science solutions and services leader working to solve the world's toughest challenges in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and health markets.
