High School, established in 1957, is a Roman Catholic Jr./Sr.

High school, grades 7-12, serving the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. Central Catholic is an A-rated school by the Indiana Department of Education with over 450 students. Central Catholic graduates 100% of its students, and over 90% move on to college.

Job Summary:

The Lafayette Catholic School System is looking for dynamic, faith-filled servant leaders who love children and love teaching. We are looking for committed teachers who want to be part of a close, supportive faith community and who want to promote the overall Mission of the Lafayette Catholic School System.

Primary Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, a successful candidate will be able to deliver high-quality, engaging instruction and encourage and inspire students. This position includes teaching biology, pre-biology, and 7th and 8th grade science classes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Indiana teaching license to teach the subject or grade for which he/she is applying.

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge:

Understands the appropriate use of Learning Management Systems (Schoology, Canvas, Blackboard, Angel, Moodle, etc).

Skills:

Strong written and oral communication abilities.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Ability to build parent and student relationships.

Ability to collaborate inside and outside of the department.

Attributes:

Self-motivated learner.

Possesses a professionally calm and motivationally intense demeanor.

Believes in planning and preparation while is also a progressive thinker.

Cares about his/her character, co-workers, and students.

Reflects a balanced quality lifestyle (spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally), which is evidenced by personal habits.

Functions at a high capacity in a fast-paced environment.

Exhibits consistency in decision making.

Experience:

Previous junior high school teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence, including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.

Instructs students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.

Create and sustain a student-centered learning environment.

Develop own curriculum utilizing current events and educational resources.
