Mabton Junior High School Head Basketball Coach
Primary Function:
A Junior High School Head Basketball Coach has the responsibility to help students develop skills and knowledge
with the district's athletic handbook and goals that will contribute to the students' development as mature, able and
responsible adults. Head Junior High School Basketball Coaches are responsible for maintaining a safe environment
on and off campus. They are responsible for maintaining records of students and equipment. Commitment to uphold
policies and expectations of the school district.
Directly Responsible To: Athletic Director and School Administration
Description of Responsibilities:
Serve as a positive role model to the players and parents
Teach Boys Basketball techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics
Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility
Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and games
Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team
Monitor players' personal conduct during games
Manage equipment and playing facilities in a responsible manner
Performs related duties as required
Hold a valid first aid/CPR/AED card to comply with Mabton School District policy and
Demonstrated working knowledge of the above-mentioned sport
Demonstrated interest in and ability to work well with multicultural Junior High School students,
staff and community
Promote the sport, within WIAA guidelines and complete all required WIAA Coaches Clinics.
Inventory, selection, care, maintenance of equipment and play surfaces
Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the athletic director, vice principal or principal.

Follow oral and written instructions
Work cooperatively with other
Be neat, orderly and honest
Work weekdays, practice after school
Interpret policies and procedures
Travel with teams for matches during the week
Work with people of all ages
On a continuous basis, work indoors; intermittently travel to various off-site locations; may be exposed to dust, noise, hard surfaces, and may be exposed to varying temperature conditions while performing work
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work well with children of various ages; basic knowledge of Boys Basketball
Willingness to learn and follow District rules and guidelines regarding youth sports
Prior coaching experience is helpful, but not required
Education/experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying
Previous experience in coaching children in some type of sport
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful coaching performance
Minimum Qualifications:
1.Completion of Junior High School diploma or GED
2.Must be 21 years of age or older
3.Complete Washington State Patrol Criminal History background check

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented manner. May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and twisting will vary depending on the age of students and classroom assignments. Physical capabilities also require lifting and carrying (no more than 50 lbs.) pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires approximately 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
