Job Description:

We are currently looking for a dynamic individual as a Junior Accountant for our Accounting Shared Services organization at our Corporate Headquarters located in The Woodlands, Texas.

As a Junior Accountant, you will report to the Accounting Shared Services Manager Inventory & Costing, and will be responsible for providing accurate, timely and compliant financial results within the published time table. This role is required to assist with the collection of financial data accurately and efficiently in order to help prepare month end account reconciliations primarily for Accounts Payable / Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI) accounts. This incumbent will perform a range of routine accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of various accounting statements and financial reports. Excellent communication skills are essential to be successful in the role. The incumbent should have a knowledge base of US GAAP.

What will be expected of you?

  • Assist with the preparation of month end account reconciliations, primarily Accounts Payable/Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI). The incumbent will work closely with the Source to Pay, Purchasing and plant personnel to resolve aged items in the accounts being reconciled. Additionally, the incumbent will have regular follow-up with vendors as needed for outstanding invoices and credit notes related to aged items

  • Participate in month end closing activities and work with other Accountants to complete all related tasks assigned within the required timeline and completes simple and complex calculations and assists with trail balances

  • Assist with requests by Internal and External auditors as needed

  • Responsible for ensuring the accounts are compliant with US GAAP and SOX procedures and documentation

  • Demonstrated success in the above key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Accounting with 1 -2 years accounting experience

  • SAP FI/CO Module experience preferred

  • Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job

  • Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function

  • Strong ability to prepare well-documented account reconciliations

  • Proficient with MS Excel

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Strong team player and able to work well with others

Job Description The Junior Accountant is responsible for month end reconciliations and providing tactical and analytical support for financial close which primarily includes Oil Liquids and Natural Gas (predominantly in the US). This role will work closely with mid and front office on new products, troubleshooting new opportunities and managing the commercial to accounting timing differences, along with implementing strategic initiatives. Responsibilities: Prepare monthly financial closing including journal entries, analysis and financial review. Manage account level reconciliation including flux analysis and detailed explanations Coordinate, collaborate and provide guidance to product control, operations and front office Adhere to corporate policies, US GAAP and predefined SOX controls to ensure financials are accurate and complete Work closely with team to complete gap assessment and ensure new business activities are included in the accounting close process correctly. Suggests new policies or proactive changes to policies. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree (BS, BA, etc.) in Accounting (a MUST) CPA Preferred 2-4 years in a commodity accounting role; preferably with inventory experience Must understand the flow of information, interaction of systems (ETRM and ERP) and be vocal in highlighting areas of issues and concerns.
