POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT - FINANCE OFFICE
BROAD FUNCTION
The Junior Accountant position reports to the College's Controller and is responsible for accounting duties related to the data entry of journal entries into the general ledger, reconciliation of selected accounts, interdepartmental invoicing and chargebacks. The junior accountant works closely with other departments within Finance & Accounting such as Accounts Payable, Bursar/Cashier, Payroll, and Purchasing.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
General Fund
Enter, file, post, and maintain daily and monthly transactions and approved journal entries.
Prepare and enter internal chargebacks (interdepartmental purchase of goods and services).
Reconcile Agency Fund account activity.
Review and balance due to/due from accounts and inter-fund transfer accounts.
Perform Internal Audit functions related to Purchasing Card (P-Cards) transactions.
Provide back up to Purchasing and Accounts Payable areas as needed.
Assist the Controller in monthly reconciliation of selected balance sheet accounts.
Assist the Bursar with monthly stale-dated checks processing and weekly account validation services error messages.
Restricted Funds - Financial Aid/Grants/Foundation
Record financial aid expenditure activity for Federal and State Programs-PELL, OCOG, OIG, SEOG, and Federal College work study
Reconcile the Federal Grant activity with Financial Aid to facilitate the draw of funds via G5Reconcile all financial aid disbursements with the Financial Aid Office each semester.
Assist the Financial Aid Office with the preparation and validation of the annual FISAP Report.
Reconcile and report general ledger grant activity with Grant Managers.
Prepare and transmit the College's Foundation Office's quarterly activity billing invoice.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree in Accounting or Business Management or demonstrable work experience comparable to such degree.
2 years professional accounting experience as a junior accountant.
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is required.
Proficiency in large ERP systems is required and proficiency in Ellucian/Colleague (the College's ERP) is preferred.
Ability to deal with people in a proactive, friendly, helpful, and tactful manner while adhering to policies, procedures, and the necessity for strong internal controls. Must possess good oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
4 years professional accounting experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Experience in higher education or fund accounting.
Experience with Ellucian Colleague (accounting system).
